24' Superboat with twin 250 Verados?

First of all I'm the number one believer of build what you want , if there's a will there's a way ! And Coen is the master of (you don't want that and that can't be done , why would you do that !) and unless you already have the Verado's how bout a pair of 300 E-Tec's ? you would come in a little over 1000 lbs . about the same as a BBC and drive .
Now on the flip side I'm not a lover of outboard performance boats , I love the rumble of a big block but in the end , Build what makes you happy.....

Again, I'm new to the world of boats over 21' with twin engines, so bear with me. . .
I like the late model 300's no matter the brand or # of strokes. My 300 HPDI makes great power (especially with the Hydrotec Stage 3) and gets crazy good fuel mileage. I'm not opposed to the 300 E-tec's. I brought up the 250 Verado's because I could get a pair of used ones in good condition for under $15k right now. If I were to run across a similar deal on 250 or 300XS's, 300HPDI's, 300 E-tec's, or Verado's I would entertain that also.
I'm set on twin engines because of sparing reasons while running offshore. But with twin I/O's, doesn't the fuel consumption rise dramatically? I ran across a 26' Sutphen with twin small block's that I got excited about, until I saw that the top speed was only 60 mph. Not only is that too slow, but at 560 hp total, that would be about 1.3 mpg.

Better off with a Simon, or Torrente 300+ Merc 2 stroke on the 24x7.

I had to put alot of time into My 30 super with twin 300 yammys and get input from many before I could run it well, the boat can be wild can't imagine a 24 with same power but it would be exciting

Jc definitly is king of ' you dont need it'....trust me, I know but in this case....I really think he is right....its been tried by a few and with not very good results. Talk to any of the top mechanics on LI who have spent more time rigging superboats then JC himself...they will tell you dont do it. When I told a mechanic I know that I had just bought a new SB and was going to put twins 300's on it...he had a pretty strong reaction because he throught I bought a new 24', as opposed to the 30. On the 30's, there is a little more boat to play with so its more feasible.......but like others said, build what you want at the end of the day

24 Superboat with twin 250 Vrods
Hi,
I hope you all are well.
I did run a Phantom 25 with twin Merc 2.5 EFI SS engines. 280 + hp each. It handled well but costed me a fortune to run over the season. Top speed 85 mph on a normal day. 87 mph on a perfect day. Accellerated like an hunted animal.
Phantom 25 is very narrow, only 5 feet. However, it looks much like a 24 Superboat. Its a 80-ties design with no notch and no steps.
I swopped to a Vrod 350 sci this summer. 1/4 of the annual costs and much more civilized. Amazing engine in all aspects. Top speed 80 mph. I think I have 1-2 mph more in there.
I did 74 mph in normal conditions with a single Promax 300 SVS, and 76 mph in ideal conditions. The 350 sci is very strong, and pulls the boat 79-80 mph whatever conditions. Gas milage is 4,6 MPG. Which is very good indeed.
So I would consider a new single 350 sci as your engine. It will balance out your hull nicely.
