I just picked up a 1978 24 Superboat with a notched transom and I'm hanging my 20" Merc 250 EFI on it. The boat has a 15" set back and the motor has no low water pickups. I believe about 3 or 4 inches below the V is a good starting point. Can anyone confirm this for me?

That sounds kinda low with a 15" setback but without a low water pick up, maybe it's required.
My 24' Super I/O had the prop about 5" below and I recall outboards being rigged on the transom a bit higher.
I suggest you check in with the guys over on Scream&Fly...lot more outboard guys over there that can help you set up an outboard Super...

Thank you Pat. I half thought I may be able to go higher with so much set back. I was only 6 back with this motor on my 21 Checkmate but 3 or 4 below was where it needed to be. Maybe 3 below is a good starting point. Always safer to start low then go high. I posted on S&F as well.

Like Pat Said Scream and Fly will be very helpful. Older boat don't respond like the newer liter ones. I had an older 24 years ago. Lots of good memories from that boat.

Thanks Jamie. Turned the key tonight and it started. A couple of connections on the steering, bleed it, and extend the water pressure gauge hose and as long as the temperature gauge works I think I'm good. Just gotta get a warning buzzer and hook it up.
