Crawled my fat butt up thru the bulkheads and found that it appears that the sides and deck are all balsa cored

Well, thought I would update this a bit. I've been busy and got both motors fired up, new EOH brake system on the trailer and fixing up some odds and ends but now have taken a huge step backwards as I was able to purchase some fresh Monty Racing built V8's out of Florida and had them shipped up here to Washington State. While my other motors ran, I could see that they really needed to be pulled off and things freshened for at least appearance sake. These are fresh with approximately 7 hours on them and should be a big step in the right direction.

Hah! You're right but no way to put 3 on that back of this skinny boat... :-)

Thank you very much. We feel incredibly fortunate to have this boat after loving it for so many years.

Since the motors were off, I took the opportunity to strip the paint off the aluminum transom paint. I metal etched with some phosphate wash, zinc chromate primer and then some 2K primer surfacer. Blocked that out and shot some fresh paint on it. Once that was out of the way, I hung both new motors yesterday and am getting really excited. Likely won't be in the water this year which is okay as that gives me more time to do a better job.
