Hi JMK,
I have had carpet in a number of boats. Personally I think it is a pain; it get soggy and smelly. Can't be good for bare feet. If you do give it a try though, don't glue it down. The glue does not come up easily when you go to change it. |
Pat -- I agree with your thoughts. I would never glue it down. When we had a Sutphen it was kinda nice because it was one are you did not need to clean and it was always kept scuff free especially when time comes to sell.

Well it must be Christmas.
The parts keep rolling in. Received My Corsa cut-outs for captain's call yesterday. |
Anybody have some new goodies for their boat under the tree???

Snap in carpet is the way to go!

Carpet
Oh-Zone,
I agree that snap in carpet is the way to go. Any suggestions on who would be good to use if I made a template? I want the carpet to have nice finished edges. |
Well, I visited JC at the Superboat factory today. Looked at the 21 Legend demo rigged with the 6.2 MX as well as a new 24 and 21, neither with engines or drives, available for sale with customer choice of power package. All very, very nice boats. When ordering a new 24, how is the final product, particularly paint and overall finish? I am also looking at a West Coast boat, the Ultra 247 XS, beautiful step bottom boat, fast, very well regarded, incredible gelcoat and overall finish. I think my choices now are the Superboat 21 Legend and the Donzi 22 Classic on the small side, and the Superboat 24 and the Ultra 247 XS on the larger boat side. The Superboat 24 and the Ultra 247 XS are both priced similarly, because I have talked an excellent deal for the Ultra, which generally is a more expensive boat.
Thanks for your comments. Ken |

the ultra is a nice boat but you have to think about resale!! right now you cant find a used 21 superboat anywhere and if one pops up for sale it gone right away i had my 24 for 3 years and sold it for $1000.00 less than i paid for it. by the way i bought it new from jc i think john has a 24 in the shop unrigged you should look at if for fit and finish good luck jim h ps i know you have a few choices but i would go with the 24 superboat |
Jim H, yes John has both a 24 and a 21 in the shop unrigged. Both boats are pretty dirty and their interiors are unfinished. What did you purchase when you sold your 24? I have heard from many owners of the Ultra, that they have excellent resale value as well. Its a tough choice, but one that I will make very soon.
Thanks for your comments. Ken |
Hey Ken,
Your an east coast guy, go with the Superboat... As far as the finished product: JC will finish off a Superboat any way you want it, just a matter of $$. The only high dollar options I would recommend are K-planes and external steering. Most of the Superboat I have seen are done clean and simple. Makes for an easy boat to maintain. I particularly like the way the engine is accessed on a 24' Superboat. One of the three reasons I sold my Pantera in favor of a Superboat. Good Luck! |
ken
what i was trying to say is that the superboat has great resale on the in the northeast the ultra is a west coast boat i have a "01 formula 280 ss it's up for sale bought it suited my needs at the time ill probably get a 30 y2k before the summer jim h ps in my personal opinion take away all the fancy paint job and interiors the superboat is a much better built boat remember that my opinion i dont want a long discussion bashing the ultra and superboats good luck |
Hey, thanks for everyone's replies. Do those out there with experience with the 21 Legend feel that it needs trim tabs? Also, are most of you purchasing switchable exhaust systems with your boats or are the standard thru hull "loud" exhaust systems within appropriate noise standards for Long Island boating?
Thanks, Ken |
The benefit of boating on the sound as opposed to a lake, is that we don't have to worry about sound levels. Remember, the louder the better
|
Hey JMK,
How's it going? You are correct, no sound level issues on LI Sound, however in the CT river there are laws on the books. I believe that 90db at 3ft, have not heard of the DEP check anyone in the last couple of years though. Used to be that they would sit between the bridges and bust boats coming out of River Landing (Between the Bridges Marina). I think that most of the high powered (really Loud) boats use switchable external mufflers now. Hi Ken, I have been running with muffler inserts for the last few years. They take the edge off at an idle so that you can talk to your passengers without yelling. They will also help meet any sound level laws. This year, I do plan to install a captain's call system so that I can have the best of both worlds... |
Silent Choice is not a choice now...

I just took My Silent choice out and put a set of CMI's in...I get harrased in Stamford & Greenwich Ct, Besides the uptight Ct towns like those I really havent had a problem with noise... I did get pulled over for my Reg numbers 3 times already ...The marine patrol in Rye,Ny pull me over by Playland all the time, they claim my numbers dont contrast the hull properly...whatever, I'm not changing them!
