CAN'T beilive no post's for to days!!!   So i had to post Tripps

Pat McPherson 02-18-2004 06:42 AM

Hey Tripps, any word from our buddy Peconic?

tripps 02-19-2004 06:23 PM

Not yet but i think it will be soon!! Tripps

Pat McPherson 02-19-2004 06:41 PM

Hey Tripps,

Does Peconic bail out for the Winter, or is he in Europe?

I know that he is up for a trip up the CT river...
It's a long run for you by boat but not for him. You could drive out east and hook up for a ride across. Drag ZZ along, he may need to break away at some point this Summer...
I know I'll be spending more time on the river this year as our son will be 18 months come June. ZZ says the rumble of a big block will put him to sleep.

Hey Patrick,

How far is Block Island? When are you doing that run? I just got a new tow vehicle.
:D

z.zuperboat 02-20-2004 07:47 AM

DAVE SWEEEET RIDE WITH THAT RIG IT LOOKS LIKE YOU MOVING UP TO A 34 SUPERBOAT.:D :D :D :D :D

Pat McPherson 02-20-2004 08:48 AM

Dave, Nice new ride!
If you make a trip up north, I'll make a run when ever you like.
It is about 45 miles one way from Chester (where JMK and I keep our boats), 35 miles from the mouth of the CT river.
Normally I make 3 trips to BI during the summer. One around the 4th of July, one with the boys only mid to late August, and one in between.

tripps 02-20-2004 05:28 PM

Hey DaveM,nice truck, when you hear the chainsaws, better move it!!!   Tripps

Dave M 02-20-2004 05:48 PM

I definitely bought the truck with future exansion in mind! It has a 10K tow limit. That should handle just about anything.

The Block Island thing sounds cool. I lived in New London, CT. for 3 years and regret never getting out there. What are the seas like going out? You must really have to watch the weather.

Hey Tripps, I told my neighbor to give me at least a day notice if he is getting any trees cut!

Pat McPherson 02-20-2004 07:36 PM

Dave,
It seems the later in the summer the bigger the seas in Block Island sound. Also, the later in the day the sea tend to build more too.
To answer your question, we have run into big big water and had to travel barely on plane a few times. Yes, you do definitely need to watch the weather as it can change quickly.
We have had some vary smooth runs over the years too. Until last year, my fastest run from up river was 1 hour 25 min. in my 20' Donzi. Last year, 1 hour 20 min. in the 24' Superboat. Surprisingly, both runs were with my wife... .She is normally telling me to slow down. :D

SS930 02-25-2004 06:48 AM

Pat,
Can you post a picture of your boat? I saw a SB at the OS ramp last summer and I'm wondering if it was you?

BTW, no doubt about the conditions heading over to BI. The Race is scary/nasty at times. And heading over to LI...Plum Gut just about took me down a couple of times in my little boat!

Sure I'll post a picture SS930.
I did not launch at the OS ramp but I do meet up with people there from time to time.
What do you have for a boat?
I have made the trip to Block in my 1975 18' Donzi. Got a little wet but we made it...:D

SS930 02-25-2004 01:06 PM

Nope, that wasn't the SB I saw at the ramp last year (but very nice!) The one I saw had SB spelled out down the side. Two guys and two girls (early twenty's maybe ???). I don't remember if it was a 24 or a 30, but if I had to guess I'd say it was a 24. It was an I/O and headed towards the Sound, I do remember that. Either way I don't think it was you I saw that day, but I'd be surprised if it wasn't an OSO member.

I have a couple of boats: a Yamaha jetboat that I travel around with and a Cougar cat. The day I saw the SB at the OS ramp I was launching the Yamaha (heading up to Middletown).

I'll have to keep an eye out for you this summer, is it safe to assume you hang out at Hamburg Cove? We spend most of our time out on LIS from OS down to the Thimble Islands, but we head up the river every so often for a change of pace. Hope to see you on the water.;)

Scott

SS930, Could this have been the superboat you saw at the OS ramp last summer? It is a 2004 30Y2K and I just took possesion of it in mid august last year and took it out of the OS ramp quite a bit after that.

sb30, great looking boat! Please post more pics, lots of them:D

Hugh

SS930 02-25-2004 03:08 PM

I remember seeing numbering on the boat and the boat being nearly new. I don't recall it being a 30, but your boat (colors, lettering and numbers) sure looks like the one I saw that day tied up at the ramp. This would've been late Aug. or early Sep., so the time frame fits as well. Are you in your early twenties? Regardless, that boat of yours sure is sweet. I can tell that picture was taken at the OS ramp. Let's here some details on your baby. So you're from MA but spend time in southern CT? The more I look at that picture, I'm pretty sure that must have been you. If (when) I see you again you have to take me for a quick ride!

Ah, the power of OSO... small world!

Dave M 02-26-2004 11:11 AM

Nice boat SB30. At first I thought it was the F1 boat on the website. The graphics are almost the same. Post some more pics. I would like to see some pics of the cockpit.

Hello fellow Superboaters,

The boat is a 2004, the engine is the 496 Mag (375 hp) Bravo One drive, Dual ram Performance Marine external steering, Labed 26 pitch prop, the graphics are the same as John,s sons boat except I had them done in red and blask instead of yellow and black like his.

I had the boat built with dependability in mind, as well as fuel economy (i.e. the 496 Mag) but had the steering put on right away as I am repowereing in 6 years when the warrantee runs out. The boat runs an even 70 on GPS and burns less fuel than my 21 did with a 225 Merc outboard.

I only have a handfull of pics as I did get the boat late in the year last year and the season was not all that great from then on but I will take more "on water" pics and post them this spring.

SS930 - a ride, you got it!!!!!

Enjoy,

SB30

sb30, Great Boat, do you have a cabin? Tell us about the ride!:D I'm thinking very similar maybe 496HO with ITS. Please post your phone # or call me at 954-309-2222 I'd like to talk about the superboat.

Hugh

z.zuperboat 02-27-2004 10:04 AM

THATS A NICE TRAILER I KNOW YOU DIDNT GET THAT FROM JOHN.THE ONE JOHN HAS LOOKS REAL HEAVY ALL STEEL.P.S. WHO DID THE PROP MERC?THEY LABBED MY 26 TWICE TO GET IT RIGHT FOR MY 30.REMOVED ENOUGH CUP TO BRING UP THE RPM BUT EXTENDED IT AROUND THE EDGE FOR MORE BOW LIFT.

Dave M 02-27-2004 10:44 AM

A 26" prop on a 30 with 375 HP? WOW! What RPMs are you runing? That must be a good lab job. I'm running a out of the box 26 on my 24SB with 385 HP.

mirageman 02-27-2004 11:11 AM

Thank You SB30!

sb30 02-27-2004 01:30 PM

Hugh, I got the unfinished cabin, i do have the seat and vberth cushions, lights, and carpet on the floor but no headliner. I wanted to keep the weight down. The ride is awesome!! Very smooth, except that one day i was out in 10 footers off the sound. You can reach me at (508) 414-6229 in the evenings, ask for Scott.

z. zuperboat, The trailer is a Rocket Trailer out of Miami Florida and I had to have John order it special because he was going to put a steel one like his under it and I wanted the aluminum one for the weight savings and the corrosion resistance. His trailer is one season old and he told me it is already rusting. Mercury did the lab job on the prop, in fact it is the prop off John's 21 IO demo boat. We tried a few props before I picked up the boat and this one worked the best. I am however going to try one of Merc's new 5 blades when they make them in a 26 pitch, hopefully this year.

Dave M I am not sure of the RPMs I'll have to pay more attention the next time I have it out and I can let you know.

SS930 02-27-2004 03:16 PM

Wow, that thing is sharp. John builds one hell of a boat. I'm looking forward to seeing you and the boat on the water in a couple of months.

Scott

mirageman 02-27-2004 04:37 PM

What was the build time on the boat?

Pat McPherson 02-28-2004 11:59 AM

sb30,
Your boat is awesome! 70mph with a 496mag is tremendous too. :D
I don't know how you will be able to stay stock for 6 years? I can't seem to go one year without messing with something...
We need to hook up this summer. I would love to get a closer look. :)

Dave,
I believe that the 496mag has a bit more power than a 454mag. Horsepower ratings can be misleading; horsepower is only a theoretical calculation from torque at a given rpm...
A 496mag is rated 375hp at 4600rpm while a 454mag tops 385hp at 5000rpm. The max torque of a 496mag is well over 500ftlbs and a 454mag is under 450ftlbs. The 496mag has a vary small cam that can be exchanged for the MagHo cam to bring the horsepower curve peek to 5000rpm. The 496MagHo is power house with over 500ftlbs of torque and 425+peek HP...;)
Seems to be a bit of a rip-off to me that Merc charges like $4000 more for just a hotter cam and different ECU calibration...:p

SS930,
It's going to crack 50°F this weekend. You could have that jet boat out dodging the icebergs.:D
I know of two jet skiers that are planning to brave the 33°F water tomorrow.

I hope we can put together another superfest?

Hey tripps,
If you plan something at the Shinnecock canal I'll meet ya.
Also, Greenport and Sag harbor are only another 20-25min... for ZZ and Jacap maybe 15min.
I don't think there are too many better spots than Claudio's in Greenport.:)

jcap, great looking boat!:D Are those monster gauges?
