Man, am I jealous... :)
Great looking combo Dave!

Dave M 03-25-2004 07:07 PM

The first splash went pretty well. I had a little scare. Cruising along at about 3K RPMs the oil pressure was pretty solid. When I started getting on it the needle on my oil pressure guage kept twitching back and fourth. I figured if something was gonna happen so be it. I cranked her up to 5K rpms and then my oil pressure gauge dropped to nothing. OH $HIT!, I came off plane and checked things out. It turned out the sender wire came off. I plugged it back in and all was well.

I hit a new high with my 4 blade prop, 74.9 gps. That was with just me and a full tank of gas.

The season has started!! :D

tripps 03-25-2004 08:48 PM

Luckjy man,out boatin!!! Tripps

SUPERBASH 03-26-2004 05:59 AM

Hey Dave M,
At least you had some nice weather for your run(40's yesterday L.I., 70's MD.) That's a good # you hit. I don't know about you I/O'ers, but the diff. of a full tank vs. fumes with us O/B'ers is 2,3 or 4 mph, and that's if I'm solo. I see 80 in your future(mine too ;) )

Dutrasystem 03-26-2004 06:27 AM

You da man!

That makes me more anxious to get out there!!
Good for you Dave! Did you have the prop labbed? I cant remember if you metioned that in a prior thread.

Dave M 03-26-2004 07:47 AM

It's a straight out of the box 26 Bravo 1. My best speed ever (75.3) was with a 25 Mirage +.

They're calling for 79 degrees here today.

Pat McPherson 03-26-2004 11:38 AM

Go ahead, rub it in...:D
Just got back from lunch down at the water.
Sunny and about 55°F, not too bad...

My 7.4MPI on Steroids is coming along too.
Intake/MPI went back on last night...:)

Dave M 03-28-2004 10:00 AM

Ya, this sucks, I'm at work today when I should be boating. At least I can cyberboat while at work. :D

Pat McPherson 04-20-2004 06:26 AM

The recent beautiful weather has given me the added motivation to make my goal of May 1.
Painted the bilge after work yesterday and worked on my engine last night.
The bilge looks almost as clean as Dave M's.:) and the engine is ready to be bolted in.
My list is getting shorter...;)
Anyone else getting close or get their boat wet yet?

z.zuperboat 04-20-2004 11:07 AM

ChristianGott 04-20-2004 06:49 PM

HEY CONDOR 24!!
I had one once!!! The Condor 24 was the BEST! What a bullet-proof hull. I sold mine to a guy in Norwalk. I think I saw yours once, moored on the CT river. Maybe, or maybe not. God bless you, because when I started talking about the boat, people thought I was nuts!! If you're out on the sound, drop a line. I'd love to meet up.
Chris

ChristianGott 04-20-2004 07:07 PM

P.S.

Hey Pat...
Looking for some other people to run with on the weekends? Drop me a line. Thank God for trailers! The ramp in Old Saybrook is the best I've seen.

C

Pat McPherson 04-21-2004 06:52 AM

Hey Christian,
I spend most of my time on the CT river until July, then we hit the Sound.
I am out every Sunday, weather permitting, and either Monday or Tuesdays after work.
Gotta Love the week days when there is no traffic...:)
Hoping to have some good raft-ups this Summer!

Dave M 04-21-2004 09:00 AM

I'm off today. Guess where I'm going? :D :D

jcap 04-22-2004 08:03 PM

Great News Jcap!
I'm coming to see you race in August...:)
Do you know where the LI Sound race will be?
Anyway, I'll be there...
My best boating buddy was over to night, and we were talking about meeting up with you and Peconic.
At 89+, you should be able to stay in front of him, but we have not heard of his off season changes...:D

Z.ZUPERBOAT,
My 24 just left the rigging shop to get it's upholstery done (haven't taken possession yet, hasn't hit the H20 yet.).This is the week. No 30 w/twin s/b's has rolled in or out of there. Was looking forward to seeing the ZUPERBOAT at Toomies?

CONDOR24 04-24-2004 06:22 PM

hey chris, i'm happy to here you once owned a condor ! i was beginning to think i had the only one in the area - well actually maybe i do :D i'm usually on the river every weekend after memorial day, we hang out in hamburg cove.

hey pat, i just got a part time job at between the bridges marina so i'll be going by your exit alot, i'd like to swing by and buy that motor mount from you one night , email me your address or # and a good time to call. ([email protected])
i got my motor checked out, and it is an hp500 clone with the crane hp500 cam. the engine builder recommended swapping out the present cam for the crane 168731, he thinks that it will help the power band for my boat by smoothing out the bottom end and increasing the mid and top end, i might as well do it while the motor is out, i wouldn't mind having the heads pocket ported ,but its not doable right now with the paint work and transom job underway, maybe next season!

tripps 04-24-2004 07:46 PM

Hey Super bash, you ain't gonna see any body at toomies yet and you shudda let us know that you were goin there!!!!!,not that we wouda went cause we are all workin on our boats!!:D :D :D tripps

SUPERBASH 04-24-2004 08:12 PM

brother Tripps!!!
I meant Toomies during the season!!!! (I was there a rainy Sunday 3 weeks ago, by car!!!). If JC gets his ass in fwd. , I"ll be there via SUPERBOAT!!!!! Would like to check out your SUPERVELOCITY, with triple eggbeaters!!!! My kinda power!!!

Pat McPherson 04-26-2004 07:59 AM

Hey Condor24,
Good news on the engine! Not sure you will notice a difference between the HP 500 cam and a 731, maybe on the dyno... The 731 cam has a wider LSA 112° vs 110° so it is less likely to cause reversion, but I think you said you are running Lightning headers. No reversion problems with those babies...;)
Drop by any time for the mount. I am only 10min from Between the bridges.
Good Luck with the rest of your work! Any idea when she will be ready for the H2O?

ChristianGott 04-27-2004 07:21 PM

Condor24
YIKES!...Just came home from Philly...saw my old boat at Blue Lightning in Greenwich..what a travesty!!..the guy I sold it to trashed and thrashed it!!..It should be a crime. That thing was perfect when I let it go. He blew the motor, smashed the wind shield, ripped and stained the "new" upholstery and lost the trailer. The hull, however, was spared the abuses. The new guy's doing a heck of a job putting it all back together. Hope to see him out on the sound soon.
Did you post any pictures?
Good luck this season "Superboaters"
Chris

Pat McPherson 04-27-2004 08:49 PM

Worked on my boat again tonight, three days in a row...
Engine is in, the out drive is on, and thanks to great phone support from Shawn, the guy I bought the engine from last year, it is now running too... :)
This fuel injection stuff is a real PIA though. The engine does not want to idle below 1000rpm, it surges like mad...:(
I guess it is one of three things, the idle control valve, the new ECU calibration, or the engine does not make enough vacuum below 1000 with the new cam.
Anyway, she will be ready for a test ride this weekend regardless of how it wants to idle...:p

Anyone else getting closer?

z.zuperboat 04-28-2004 10:48 AM

PAINTED THE GIMBLE AND GOT THE TRIM PISTONS AND PINS.THURSDAY IS GIMBLE ASSEMBLY AND THE WEEKEND IS SLATED FOR X DIMENTION SETUP.

Dave M 04-28-2004 10:51 AM

Hey Patrick,

My motor surges a bit when I run it on the hose. It idles fine but when I increase to about 1K rpms or so, it surges. It does not do this when it is in the water? I am on a well so maybe it's because the water is so cold.

Dave

Pat McPherson 04-28-2004 12:00 PM

Hey ZZ,
Good to hear your on the job now...
Care to share how close your prop shaft will be to the bottom...:)

Dave, you may be right about the cold water thing.
We have city water that is not much above 40°F.
The engine does struggle to get up to temp.
We'll see if out in the 50°F CT river water will help.:D

Anyway, I did speak to AZ Speed and Marine today, and they will tweak the program for both high and low RPM. I just need to get on the water to see if she will rev under load. Lets hope she revs 300-400rpm more than last year!

I am going to give the MPI three chances. We already have strike one.:(

I have ZZ's old Dart intake and a 750cfm carb sitting on the shelf, ready to be bolted on at moments notice...:D

JMK4060 04-28-2004 04:03 PM

getting close to launch time

Pat:

River is starting to call our names. We have to make a point of running up/down the river more this summer.
I know I have asked this question before, but what is the estimate on weight with trailer for the 24'?
I hope to put the swim platform on next year -- could not get the spouse to sign off on it this year.
Pat, I really need you to show me the mount position -- as to prevent another coupler issue.

Pat McPherson 04-28-2004 06:31 PM

Hey JMK406,
Long time no hear...
The River is definitely calling...
I am hoping to do some testing on Saturday afternoon. My engine seems strong mechanically, at least the compression test I did was good. Just need to get my MPI calibrated...:eureka:
The engine mount thing is no problem. I'll show ya what to look for. Basically you don't want to see any space opening up under the top locking nut.
Your 24' Superboat hull weighs about 2000#, the engine drive are 1200#, fuel & gear 300#, trailer 1000#
Total about 4500#. My 24' Pantera package weighed in 4700 at the local gravel pit.

JMK4060 04-29-2004 02:01 PM

Thanks for the info. I keep an eye on the board but don't have much to say -- just learn from you guys.

Pat McPherson 04-30-2004 06:49 AM

JMK,
I forgot you have a small block in yours.
Subtract about 150# vs. Big block...

z.zuperboat 04-30-2004 10:14 AM

THE HOLES ARE DRILLED AND THE PROP WILL BE ONE INCH BELOW THE BOTTOM.THIS X CAME HIGHLY RECOMMENDED AS BEING BEING BOTH FAST AND SEMI USER FRIENDLY AS THIS IS NOT A RACE BOAT.JUST A TOY TO TAKE THE KIDS TO THE BEACH (QUICKLY);)

Pat McPherson 04-30-2004 10:50 AM

Hey ZZ,
You going to do anything to your cabin entry?

z.zuperboat 04-30-2004 11:07 AM

NEED SOME IDEAS, JOHN DOESN'T MAKE THE DOORS OR HATCH ANY MORE,I NEED SOMETHING STRONG ENOUGH TO STAND ON BECAUSE I ALWAYS NOSE IN . WITH THE STANDOFF BOX YOU NEEDED A POLEVAULT TO GET OFF THE BACK, NOW WITH THE SPEEDMASTER WHO KNOWS.ALSO I'M GOING TO HAVE SOME CUSHIONS MADE FOR THE CABIN FOR THE KID TO GET OUT OF THE SUN AND SLEEP WHILE IM AT TOOMIES

Pat McPherson 04-30-2004 12:13 PM

I will probably remake my cabin hatch out of aluminum.
I feel like I am going to brake that star board crap every time I put weight on it...

Pat,
First weekend in May! How'd you make out? Cracking the 70mph barrier is more important anyway.

Z.ZUP,
Don Frost Marine Interiors(Park Ave & 109) just did the complete upholstery on my 24, came out excellent, except they are very busy right now. Front buckets just need to get installed, then she's mine.
