Welcome!
I have an 24' I/O so I am not the best source...
Superbash or O-Zone will be able to help you.
If I had to guess though, 26p four blade with max engine rpm at 5800-6000.
Good Luck!

Re: new to forum

you need to keep the revs between 6200-6800 rpms. I just aquired a 24p 3 BLADE LIGHTNING ET have yet to pull a speed run... (I also run a 300x on a 24' stepbottom) been out three times with wife and son and that aint gonna happen. Im on vaca next week and plan to get some seat time in. Also have 24p thropthy plus 4blade that I just had labbed a 2nd time (this time by Mercury) and hoping for better results(long story) If ya wanna get more in depth let me know and Ill give ya my cell #. typing is not my thing.

FASTXXXXXXXXXXX(or no X?) WELCOME!

Oh-ZOne or FastXXX
Correct me, isn't a 99 300 a non-X, lower revver up to 6300 or so...Anyway, I'm running a 04 24 Stepp , 250 Saltwater EFI, 12" Setback, out of the box 26 Trophy Plus, 3 " propshaft centerline, spinning up to it's MAX 5800 trimmed up. Lower RPM motors need to spin a bigger wheel. I just ran 71.1GPS! 1/4 tank solo & flat out trimmed to the f 'n moon. I have been at this with every SB MERC V6 16' -21'- 24' I have owned. I"ll say again. SB's like bowlift. 1/2" below pad you must have mega cavitation planing off (unless your prop is too small), lose prop bite big time in the ruff and won't be able to trim for **** cause your gonna over rev, no bow lift & in turn gonna run slower. Been there. Done that. Yeah, I've been told to "go up with the motor", and believe me I"ve had them up, down ,on the transom ,off the transom. I setup & ran a Hydrostream & a Laser. Different animals. Ran against a 22Activator w/ a 2.5, little choppy, but I never got off and he couldn't catch me(if flat out, different story), I'm an honest person, JC doesn't have a clue what props to run. He said I would run 64-65. I got my own props 24-25-26 and ran them all, at all heights & all conditions. Labbing is to get that last mph out of your set up once everything else is right. OH-ZONE has a 300X with the *lightweight hull layup. I'd have that thing bumping 78. There are 24 stockers running 77GPS with X's. My .0002cents. If you need, I have a 1x used 24 Trophy in box . I think you need bigger. You didn'y say what you had on there now? Just got rid of the 25. Again, welcome. I hope you can post pics.

Just in process of installing *"TIE BARS" on the 24. Someone(initial JC) says you don't need them, but setback & a 3.0 ltre. V6( or those with *TWINS*or *TRIPS*) will wreck a transom. Superboats don't have glassed in "knees" designed into them. This is security, not overkill. Custom fabbed, 5/8" SS rod tying transom into stringers. Did them on the 16 & 21's too. More photos to come as I fabricate and install. Pic 1 - motorwell boots installed.(gotta remove that sticker).Pic 2- 300X's in my future? Pat... You're a well rounded SB'er, I know you are following along.

The cabin door thing just bothered me. Shoulda been built right first time. Sticker is coming off & getting stuck to something portable.
FASTX,
You still didn't tell me if you had an X motor or not. Big difference. Try all props you can. Hell, I got a 28 small ear chopper I thru on, but didn't like it. Pics of the Trophy Plus', flotorque II hub kit, both new(only way they sell 'em that I know).WWW.PROPELLERSONLINE.COM

FAST(X)
Motor is on transom. I would start with 1 hole up from being all the way down( about a 3 1/4" center of bullet-bottom of pad with the motor flat trim, if the ground is level, I just measure uo to bullet, up to pad bottom, & subtract the diff). I have a 12" setback currently on the bottom hole (motor all the way down) & also I run on the 2nd hole. 3rd hole I get too much slip. (The setback makes a world of difference, handling, top end , planing & looks tuff). Compare rpm's to speeds(GPS) & you'll eventually get it right. An adjustable setback makes fine tuning much easier, especially if you don't have a hoist. Keep posting.

Two 300s Superbash??? Maybe on a 30'... :p
There is one over here in the CT river. Haven't met the guy yet, just seen him go blazing by at 90+ I'm sure...
I would think 1 300x would push your boat dam near 80mph... :)
80-85 is sick in a 24', but in a 30'...
Some day...

YES! I know parting with the $$ is hard... But good investment. Do have enough play with your cables, steering(hydraulic?), wires. etc.? How'd you make out "prop testing". I'm sticking with the Trophy. Great all around.

Maybe I need an extension box for my I/O... :D

SUPERBASH 06-11-2004 12:34 PM

Pat?

OH-ZONE has a setback... Pat... Maybe we can talk you into a bracket & an "X" motor one day???? One thing for sure, just think of all the extra storage space you"ll have!!! Honestly, I kinda kick myself in the ass for not thinking hard enough when I specked the boat(under the circumstances). If I hadda do it again, woulda went with the I/O layup and like a 30" fullwidth swimplatform/setback to hang the OB on. Maybe next life.

I though his engine was bolted to the transom.
I have only seen him from a distance at the Old Saybrook launch.
Hopefully I'll catch him out there this Summer...

After we sold our Cigarette, My wife made three demands for the next boat...
Cabin, Sun pad, and Swim platform.

Hey Superbash,

Is the inside of your fairing painted? Or does it have the vinyl BS like mine?

Hey Dave,
When they were putting the screen on, I was like "whats with that black sticky crap?" They said that was the finishing material. I woulda rather just kept it the "molded in" black. Gonna peel it off one day.

Dave M 06-12-2004 05:59 AM

Re: new to forum

Mines peeling off an look like ****. That's been on my to do list for a while. Did you see them put the fairing on? It just screws in using the screws from the snaps? And a little caulk around the seam?

Well gotta go get the boat ready for the weekend. The weather here look great today and tomorrow. High 70's and sunny.

Hey Dave
YES to all 3. Do you have trim indicators? I'm having a tuff time trying to really use the tabs in the ruff to my advantage. I think they would help.
FAST(XXX)
Before I forget, I don't know if you have allready, an aluminum angle 3x3x3/8 to stiffen the inside of the transom. A "must" with the setback. Pic 2- "SUPERCAT" admiring the Trophy's box.

Hey Superbash,

I have Gaffrig mechanical indicators. I would not want to be without them.

Re: new to forum

I see you do. I just realized my stb. tab wasn't working(solenoid gnd. wire off). That's why I was having such a hard time balancing. Let me ask you, I just went out again, and "set" both tabs even(without indicators) and it definately did the trick. Without tab, I was getting a lot of the notorious "24 List" in a quartering sea. But man, with just a little tab, she rocks and I have "no fear" about hitting just about anything from any direction. I still wanna add the indicators. Did you do yourself? Cable Lengths? Price(parts). Thanx

Dave M 06-13-2004 07:58 PM

Re: new to forum

I had somebody install them. It's probably not that hard though. I'll have to check my paperwork for the lengths.

I have been wanting mech. indicators for a while now. Keeps getting push to the bottom of the list.
I told myself that I would not buy any more stuff until I finish installing the crap I have already purchased.
Still haven't installed the captain's call... :o

What Capt. Call do you have? Do you have the merc system? I have the Merc system and it's nothing but trouble. I think the systems with the electric selonoids are better.

Re: new to forum

FASTXXX- I FEEL YOUR PAIN.
I'm just curious what your speed & rpm's were with the 23 Trophy? Which motor hole were you on? Are you sure your running on all SIX? I was running 5000rpm @ 60mph one day , shaking my head, to find a plug wire off. I would think that 300, should spin a 25 Trophy at 76mph (see WWW.SCREAM&FLY.COM article "Boger Test trophy. They ran a 24 Progression(silmilar weight to SB) 300promax with 25 Trophy, out of box & labbed) between 76-78mph @ 61-6300.
I need more prop for some odd reason. Running a solid 70 with the 26 Trophy, & East Coast set up 24 SB same motor as me with a 25 Trophy & it's running 72!!??
The setback will be beneficial, but it's not a cure. My 21 ran within 1 -2 mph over with the 12" setback than on the transom.
ZZup. is right. I would like to get my hands on a 27 Tempest to try for Top End. The hardest part I think for all of us is not having a stockroom of props available to just "try out".

Pat McPherson 06-17-2004 03:09 PM

Re: new to forum

You guys ever run 3 blade props?
On my boat, a Mirage + is 2mph faster (70) vs. a Bravo I (68). Both props labbed.
