If all are welcome, mind if a guy in a little Sutphen tags along for the lower River part? I'll probably only run from the Old Saybrook ramp to the restaurant in Middletown. If it's OK, keep me up on the times. Thanks.

Pat, Jcap - I think we'll target 8am at the I-95 ramp too, probably stay in a hotel off the interstate to make easy-in-easy-out. Christian, welcome! Not sure who the organizer is, but I hope they see some of these posts as the attendee list grows! See you there!

No Pat...just me & a bud for a long day trip along with a few other trailerers' I think. Some are leaving Fri. afternoon. Some sat. morning.

*Just one thing ...remember guys this event is "advertised" on Scream&Fly. The boats tend to be in the 18-22' range. While smaller...alot of them are very fast. "Respect the little guys" as to quote JCAP. I know it won't be a problem.*

Re: October 16th, CT River

After re-thinking the traffic, we're considering meeting Bash and Jcap instead early Sat morning to caravan. This way we can follow someone who (hopefully) knows the way and we'll have company along the way should there be any isssues. So, we'll need to hear where we can tag up with you early Sat morning (maybe a local dinner Fri night??)!

Hey Guys and Gails,
If you can get yourselves to I-95 north from the island, and I'm sure you can, it is vary easy to get to either the I-95 CT river launch or Haddam Meadows state park.
You decide where your going to launch, and I'll post some directions.
I will be launching in Chester half way between the two. My marina is also an option for anyone.

Hey Superbash,
I have not read though the whole thread on Scream & Fly. Is there someone we should contact before hand? or just show up?

Have a great weekend!

Pat McPherson 10-02-2004 12:03 PM

OK, I answered my own question...

Rich Owen is the organizer and we should contact him by Oct. 13th.
Part of the thread below...

"IMPORTANT !!! Let me know if you are coming (and how many) by Oct 13 so I can order the pizza . If you don't call or email me please supply your own food .
We'll cook some burgers and dogs at the ramp at the end of the day .
Bring beverages for the day and evening.
You can contact me at [email protected] or 860-223-6754 or cel 860-214-1667"

Plan on a 1 hour ride up the CT river to Haddam though. There are 4 no wake zones and two of them are quite long.

Just E mailed Rich owen...he said drivers meeting 9:45am...launch at 10am. Leave early to get there earlier. Looks like a 5:30am departure to get there by 8:30am.

Re: October 16th, CT River

Hey Superbash, Jcap.
You would know better than I, but I don't think you boys will have to be too concerned about NYC traffic at 6am. Man, you sure you need to leave so early? My wife's cousin lives in Baldwin, and it never takes us more than 2-1/2 hours. Of course we are not towing a boat.

Superbash,
You are going straight to Haddam I'm guessing? If the plan is to launch at 10am, it will take quite a bit of time to launch 50+ boats. The launch is good, but only two at a time. I would say the run would not begin before 11am.
I am going to e-mail Rich Owen to ask if it is OK to just show by 10:30. I am Farly familiar with the river south of Middletown and I don't plan on my boat running up front anyhow...

Jcap,
I don't think the ferries would save you any time, probably take longer. Also, you would need reservations to bring a boat along for sure.
I agree that you should launch in Old Saybrook under the I-95 bridge. I will double check for you, but I believe you can leave your rig there overnight with out worries. I am assuming Krakmeup will do the same if all goes well on Friday.
I'll meet you on the river.

For the CT river launch under the I-95 bridge:
I-95 north to exit 67. Bear right as you come down the ramp. When you pull away from the stop, you need to go to the far left lane before the traffic light. Pat's country kitchen is on you right. Take a left at the light onto route 1 north. This all happens vary quickly...
Follow Rt. 1 past a couple of car dealers and Ocean Performance, our local go fast boat dealer. OP will be on your right. After OP, you will see the on ramp for I-95. Don't get on!
Follow the road around to the right. You will pass Ragged Rock marina, then the road bends left and you will see the river... Between the Bridges marina will be on your right and the I-95 bridge in front of you. The launch is under the bridge to your right. It is vary large, you can't miss it.
That was the long version... :D It is really quite simple.

Re: October 16th, CT River

I agree with Pat on the Old Saybrook Launch. It's a very user friendly ramp. Trucks and trailers are definitely welcome overnite in the lot across the street. I've done that a time or 2. The ramp is also easily accessable at all tides, and on October 16, the boat traffic should be somewhat lesser than your typical summer Saturday.

Hi Guys and Gails,
I had a couple of e-mails back and forth with Rich Owen.
My Pizza order is in.
The launching starts at 10am in Haddam so the run will not start before 11:00am.
My plan is to be on the water no later than 9:30am...

Jcap and Krakmeup,
I am assuming that you will be launching in Old Saybrook around 9am. If your plan has changed please drop me a line or give a shout.
I will head South toward you if I get out before you make it to Chester. If you get to the Chester to Haddam ferry please hold up for me. Another good land mark is Gillette's Castle to starboard; can't miss either. Just stay in the channel and no worries; remember RRR... :drink:
My cell # (860) 227-7513 please no voice-mail, I don't check it...
I have a baby sitter until 10pm, so if need be, I can lead you to Saybrook Point Inn after dark. I plan to blast down there with you either way.

Superbash,
Looking forward to meeting you. You had great weather for your Wednesday night rip... :D

The leaves are changing and there is a chill in the air. Bring your ski parkas and have a safe trip up everyone...

We'll wait for confirmation from Jcap.
I plan to launch in Chester at 9:30 and meet up with them somewhere in between.

If you launch at 9am or so in Old Saybrook, maybe you could lead them north to meet up with me?

Jcap, you out there?

The weather is looking pretty good everyone:
62°F, partly cloudy, sw wind at 25.
Wind from the south is a lot better than a north wind this time of year...
Let's hope it doen't blow the color off the trees.

I had a small family crisis this week, all ok now, but havnt been on the board.I am meeting Krac with his new boat and superbash and his gang to wagon train up to CT.I am still thinking of going to the ramp you suggested just to avoid the mad rush but i will try to reach you in the morning, I tried you a few times today but no answer.Looking forward to seeing everybody. My boats a mess and in need or a tune up but had no time.We are staying untill sunday afternoon and hope a few people will be around to play on sunday.

Hi Jim,
Sorry I missed your call. I tried you about 20min ago. I'm not sure if you will check here again tonight but we'll talk in the morning regardless.
I do recommend that you and Keith launch in Old Saybrook for a couple of reasons. It is much easier for larger boats and you will avoid the rush up north. The only down side is that it gets dark at about 6pm. I'm not sure what time we will finish in Haddam? There is an after party. Navigating the river after dark is not a problem so long as we take it slow. I will make sure that you make it back to Saybrook Point Inn by land or by sea...
Talk to you in the am and No worries mate. :drink:

Jcap, Bash, Pat, SB30, Chris, Wayne thanks for ALL your help!! We'll post more soon, right now it's back on the road.

The Boat is AWESOME!! Here's a few quick shots of the happy owners - hope some of you got pictures of us underway!!

Smiles, smiles, smiles - new boat, great friends, awesome (but cold for us Texans!) weather, and more boats - can it get any better???

Rick, John, if you read this, I'll be calling you soon - the boat ran GREAT.

Re: October 16th, CT River

CT RIVER RUN,
this was one of the best events we have been to ,well organized , great hardware , great people ,there was a little bit of everything, from a couple of inflatibles that were running very fast!! (yes inflatibles!!) to lots of very hot SOBs from 15ft to 30ft, to a few offshore cats and a Cig(maybe a 35?) People were great, very nice homeowners allowed this event basicaly in thier backyard,(thanks again to the family that allowed my wife into thier beautiful home to use the facilities)
SUPERBOAT was very well represented, lots of 21s(joe from east coast marines beautiful 21 with a 300) and lots of 24s(superbashs really is beautiful! and Pats looks and runs great, got some pretty good air on that last wake Pat!!) a few 30s a few 30y2ks
SUPER30 was great to see you and the Misses again,I have some good shots of your 30y2k also,if my cam can be fixed!
A big thank you to Rich Owen the organizer of this event, what a great group of people! We have raced in professional events that were less organized than this informal get together.

Just an additional note:
I am usually the smallest boat in the pack with the offshore crowd, being a single engine 30ft that barely does 90mph and I am used to being swamped by bigger faster boats. It is easy for me to forget that my wake while insignificant for an offshore boat ,is substantial for a 16 foot pickle fork boat that does 120 mph! We were not in time for the drivers meeting ,and really had no idea of how the run was planned, I hope I did not break any rules ,offend or swamp any of my new SOB friends(my wife did learn how far an outboard can throw a roostertail,I told her to wear rain gear!)
If anyone can post in scream and fly, please post a link to this thread!
