Re: Superboats?
Progressions are nice. You're going to pay a lot more for one than a similar Superboat.
|
Re: Superboats?
'05 Season?...Between the Y2k orders & the new 34 CC at SUPERBOAT...you don't have much time to tire kick :D
-Dave a similar SUPERBOAT & PROGRESSION won't be much of a difference in price. All the extra work & different material = more $$. |
Re: Superboats?
Kevin at Progression is sending me a package regarding the 24 LD I/O that prices it out with a 496 HO, 280 K Planes and assorted other options. He is also providing a price on a 22 OB with a 250 Merc. From there, I will visit his shop and see where we go. I already have definitive prices from JC, for a 24 Superboat, 496 HO, K Planes, Gaffrig Gauges,
motor race mount, 1 piston external steering, from last year at this time. Thanks, Ken |
Re: Superboats?
Ken
I"m not pushing Progression or Superboat, but I think you realize that a standard layup Progression & Superboat are different...with the standard Progression being higher quality more $$ material . Superboat will be less $$ standard... unless you specify how you want it built. (It's been covered before on here & ScreamAndFly.) |
Re: Superboats?
Hey Guys,
Correct me if I'm wrong... Progression use balsa coring throughout; no plywood. Superboats are built with some balsa coring, but plywood is used in a lot of areas. Superboats can be built with balsa coring throughout as an option. I believe it's called the lightweight hull... The other big difference in production technique is vacuum bagging. Progression does it; Superboat does not... Progressions are more $$ any way you slice it... :p |
Re: Superboats?
Progression uses baltek as stringers and in the transom also.A bare 29 weighs in at 2660lbs full int and no power. How heavy is a y2k with out power? My 30 Tempest weighed in at 4600 minus 90 gallons of fuel 550lbs put me at 4050. How much will a 29 Prog weigh with power?

Re: Superboats?
Pat,
We use Balsa core from the chine down on all our boats. The difference between the lightweight layup and a pleasure layup is due to using 1708 glass rather then 24oz. roving in the pleasure model. On the lightweight layup, the sides are also cored with Divinycell foam coring. The 1708 glass and the Divinycell coring will give a big weight reduction in the layup. 1708 e glass is also expensive, and so is the Divinycell coring (around $ 8.00 sq. ft.). As far as Progressions are concerned. They are a quality built boat. All Progressions come with a blueprinted bottom(which is added to the price) You will pay more for a Progrression then a stock Superboat. Then again, If you want your bottom blueprinted, I will do it for you. If you want the cabin interior done, I will also do that. We don't vaccum bag our hull layups, but for a fee we'll do it. My hull layups are pretty tight. These extras cost money. By the time you get done adding them all up, you'll find they cost around the same. I just got done laying up Superbabi's hull. If you want to see what a quality layup looks like, stop on by the shop Rick |
Re: Superboats?
Got my package back from Progression. Bottom line, without getting into any real detail because I have to go out for dinner, a 24 LD Progression I/O, with K planes, hydraulic steering, unfinished cabin, foot throttle, foot drive trim, and some other items which I cannot remember at the moment, will be priced somewhat similarly to the Superboat 496 HO Y2K, or around $63 and change.
Thanks, Ken |
Re: Superboats?
Ken,
A 24' Progression is the same price as a 30' Superboat? That is like comparing apples to oranges... Rick, Keep building them the way you are. Your 30' Y2K is vary reasonably priced. Build lots of them so maybe I can afford a used one in a few years. If I could spend 60K on a boat, I'd be next in line for one... That's if the Zuperboat is not for sale... :drink: |
Re: Superboats?
Just think !!! If you ordered one back in the summer when he had a sale on the Y2K's, you could have had one for around $ 50,000.00.
Rick |
Re: Superboats?
Ken,
All I can say is that it''s going to be hard to beat our quality and price. Pound for pound, we're the best value. |
Re: Superboats?
While we're on this subject. I know John jrs. or fastedy's Y2K's aren't "50K Y2k's". Besides their power...what is the difference in there 500h.p + hull lay up? Is it what you just mentioned FX-10? Gene...(I may stop by later.)
|
Re: Superboats?
I'd have to agree with FX, pound for pound, no better deal than SB out there - I hunted across the nation and bought where my dollars went the furthest, and have not looked back! I have hard core powerboaters ride with me and are impressed by it's simplicity, build, efficiency and performance.

We'll probably get to try this in the next 2-4 weekends if weather cooperates. Ok Gary - have I told you (lately) how awesome this boat is??? Yup, the molds are at the shop now. I have a pic of one with a 70 Merc on it. It's faster, and more manuverable then the GW Invader. I still want to try to add inserts in the hull to step the chine around 2' from the transom. I think it'll give it even more speed. Next one built will go to my girls with a 25hp.
Wait, I just found the pic on scream and fly. Hope it works. |
Re: Superboats?
1 Attachment(s)
As you can see in the pic, I tricked out the bottom alittle. It's now a mild V, with a wide pad, with inverted chines. It gets more lift, and goes alot faster then a GW. Bash, with a 40hp, you'll do around 50mph. Not bad for a 10' boat. I don't know how fast it goes with the 70hp.No GPS. I do know that I do mid 50's, and he goes by me like I'm standing still.
|
Re: Superboats?
They're sweet!...I need one that will handle 1-2's... keep up with most...not all... wave runners....& click off a 70 on demand http://photos.imageevent.com/superba.../wellfunny.gif The new motors are so heavy which makes it a problem.
-Pat ...are you interested in a stern drive set up  ? |
Re: Superboats?
Just driving around the block from me in Amity Harbor...see an all white Invader in a guys side yard...he has two Allisons there also......not sure if its a GW or an FX.
|
Re: Superboats?
The one on the side yard is a FX Supervader. Steve Panico owns that one, he was my partner with the molds. It's the first one made. That also had a 70hp on it. I was making that one, had the hull completed and went to my parents house in North Carolina for a week, When I came back Steve had the deck skinned with a ply of 1.5 oz. Mat. He then pulled it out of the mold unfinished, just to see how it would look on the hull. I was sooooo pissed. He had someone from Progression do the mat lay up on the deck. And the glasswork sucked. I had to put the deck BACK in the mold and finish it. There is one stress crack on the transom, but that was from Steve trying to take out the deck before it was finished. The floor followes the chine up to the bow. It is also foam filled. One TUFF little boat.
The white Allison is also for sale. I believe it's a XR2000, 21'. That boat has been seen over 120mph. He'd take $ 3,500.00 for boat and trailer I think. He also has a few motors. Bash, where are you in the Harbor ? I grew up on Harding Rd, down by Tanner Park. If you want to see the difference of how the Gw and FX are built, let me know. I'll take you over to Steves and you can see both of the . The grey one I have a pic of and the FX. The grey one is the plug that I used to make the molds. |
Re: Superboats?
Is steve panico a truck or was a truck mechanic?? if so i need his phone# i havent seen him for a while and would like to say hello tripps [email protected] happy new year everybody!!!! tripps
|
Re: Superboats?
Tripps,
Are you thinking of Mike Panico ? He's partners with Ritchie with R & M Truck Service. I don't have Mikes # off hand. Bash, Mike owns the Burgandy and white Allison on the side of the yard. |
