Spring has Sprung
It's a balmy 79 here today and the boat came out of hibernation. Fired up perfectly and ready for a shake-down.
Who doesn't love New England in the spring?
C
no...there's not still snow on the ground!!

Hey Christian!
While I'd be more interested in a twin OB Rum Runner, there's a Twin 350 Mag boat available in AZ (like yours).
Can you take a look at boat trader online?
What speed will she run? Will the Alphas hold up to more power? Is non-counter rotation an issue? She's got approx 300 hours.
Other comments?
Thanks!

Re: Spring has Sprung
hey dave....
i bought my boat with somewhere over 300 hrs...it had a few minor issues (gimbal bearing/exhaust mani.s) but the motors are pretty bullet-proof, really durable. i cant answer your c/r question, spinning one the other direction must be more beneficial.....i've heard that you can simply switch the shift cable and prop..and run the drive in reverse...
i think that popular consensus for alphas is less than 400 horses, and small blocks only...no big blocks, too much torque...with my 4 blade revolution 23's i should be in the low to mid 70's...but i cruise at 3200 at 50ish, that's what i like.the revo's were designed to be a good ob prop, the hp of a small block sort of replicates the concept...
..that's the "airtime' boat, right?....looks pretty sweet...
careful with ob's i've heard stories of popped powerheads from being airborne, and thrown blades on set ups with older motors...if you search this thread, i think a guy out east here is looking to sell his ob boat....it looks pretty good, with newer motors..
good luck in your search...hope i helped.

Re: Spring has Sprung
Thanks for the scoop! Yep, it's the Airtime boat. Guy seems pretty cool. Second owner. Do you have a stereo mounted in your boat? Where? Airtime has none? Thanks!

Re: Spring has Sprung
My 1987 26 was a non counter-rotating boat and I converted it. Much better tracking and overall handling with the c/r setup, particularly in large waves but my handling woes were being compounded by sloppy drives. With Alphas you will have to find a complete c/r lower unit and swap it, change the cable location on the shifter, slap on a leftty and go!
These c/r units are scarce for Alpha I's so you will likely pay a lot.

Re: Spring has Sprung
i have a stereo mounted inside the cabin door, over the built in cooler, but mounted in a box...like you would mount it outdoors, on a center console. it's like a hanging, free standing stack over the cooler, with the vhf attached below. yes the cooler is still functional, and i only had to make 2 screw holes to mount the whole thing....i hate cutting up a perfectly good boat!
it's out of the way looks neat and clean...i'll try to snap and post a pic tomorrow....thurs..or now...i zoomed and cropped, can you see it?

Re: Spring has Sprung
I've stared at that photo a while now and my guess is they are both r/h props.
