Rich's shop is about ten minutes from Lake Hopatcong in a small business park at 175 Stanhope Sparta Rd (Rt605) Andover, NJ 07821-4901. (Just south of Maple Pl on the map) His shop has a parking area and two large bays under one roof. He never mentioned that Image was there before but I'll ask.

Re: Sutphen Models
Does sutphen make anything under 20 ft? I live on Lake Hopatcong and knew Sam Sutphen when he owned Porspect Point Boats. I liked Ritchiy's first 18 Ft donzi knockoff but they are tough to find used.

Re: Sutphen Models
No, the 18' and 17' are no longer made. One mold was sold off to Concept Boats and last seen rotting in a field and the other was stolen from Richie Jr's storage and never seen again. If that's what you are looking for, once in awhile one pops up for sale. Even if the boat is in bad shape you could buy one and have Richie refurb and repower it. The stuff I've seen him do with glass is amazing. There was that blue 17' with OMC for sale in Landing and then the last I saw it was in a lot on the River Styx Rd.
You may want to touch base with Richie to let him know what you're looking for. All Sutphens were all original designs and not splashes of anything although there's no mistaking the Aronow influence. I recall Richie telling me that the 20' came about as a direct result of when Cigarette released their 20'. Cigarette was the pinacle of the industry at that time and everyone was influenced by them. He still has his demo 20' for sale. Good luck |
Re: Sutphen Models
There is also one for sale across from Lees Park in Mt Arlington but it was pretty rough & asked alot (I thought). Been there for 2 years now. I'll think about talking to ritchie. Thanks

Re: Sutphen Models
I'm sure Richie knows the boat. He'll give you the straight scoop. Stop by his shop and check out the lines of the new 21'.

Re: Sutphen Models
Are the molds around for the 18 footer?

I think this is a Sutphen 17, can anyone confirm that?
|
Re: Sutphen Models
I'll ask Richie again but I think it was the 18' mold sold off to Concept. Concept did make a few but he's unsure what became of the mold. The last Richie saw it was left out in a field to rot. There was also a center console fishing version of the 18' deck.
Phil, that is definately a pic of a 17'. |
Re: Sutphen Models
If you liked the 18 ft. you should take the extra step and go for the 20 ft demo boat that is now for sale. Its only 2 feet on paper, but it is a huge difference when sitting in the boat. The 17' - 18' had very little freeboard. The 20' is a much better way to go. It does 70 mph, has an open area under the bow and top notch construction. It could be purchased for the same money that a 22 Scarab was selling for in 1996.

Re: Sutphen Models
Yes that boat is a 17.
As for the 18' or 20'...The 18 has a more early classic style, while the 20 has a more offshore look and performance. If you want freeboard, get a 26. |
Re: Sutphen Models
Anybody have pics and more info on the 20 demo ???
