Dear all, my name is Simone,
a new member and can't post new topics because I have no creditcard (I live on Curacao, an island in the Caribbean).

I truly hope I can find someone who knows enough about Sutphen powerboats.

I'm thinking about buying a Sutphen Powerboad, build '92, 39 feet, two inside engines (800 hp each).
The reason why I want to buy this boat is because I want to offer powerboat chartertours to tourists visiting the island.

The sea of Curacao (offshore) is known to be extremely rough at times. Can anyone tell me if this boat I've got my eye on is the right boat for these conditions?

Simone, Sutphens are GREAT rough water boats .But the boat at the power level and size in question is no toy for an inexperienced operator to run or service .One mistake at 90 plus MPH (which a Sutphen with twin 800s can run ) could lead to a very interesting tour.

Comparing a Sutphen Powerboat to a Wellcraft Scarab 38, or Midnight Express 37 (quite a unique and 'notorious' one), build by Cigarette somewhere around '85

Would you consider the Sutphen Powerboat to be the kind of boat I should choose, taking strength, power, shape and overall capability on rough water into account?

Thanks Trick.Simone, Sutphen just makes a FANTASTIC HULL (in my 30 i was able to keep up with much bigger boats in heavy water)I am not sure about the other boats mentioned but (in my opinion )you simply can not comoare it to a production Scarab (non Larry Smith).The Sutphen is signifigantly stronger.If it is a Larry Smith Scarab either one is a great choice.

RD, there was a 38 LS scarab full stagger w/ 6man bolster for sale just over a year ago in Cali. It would have been perfect for you.
Sold for about 75-80k. And it was not old, probably mid to late 90s boat.
It was owned by board member Jody165. He may know where it is or if its still for sale.

This Parnell's boat , then Trick, and now in Muskegon with Phill.

It was in the classifieds a while back, seems like the price was real high with out power?????????? But it had everyting else.

Personally i would talk with Fred at Trick about it if your serious.

Thanks guys i called Ron on that boat months ago and offered 68000.00(which he shot down)Considering the boats history,age ,lack of components (props,tie bar,engines with full accessories ,headers, trannys) i thought the offer was fair.If you do the math and deduct the number 6 (God kows what shape they were in )Ron at 96000.00 asking was within 50. grand of a new hull.

The boat is very nice (it was exactly what i was looking for ) but to spend 175,000.00 (need engines ,headers,exhaust,tie bar,props rigging ect )on a 95 is way to rich for me especially considering the other factors involving the hull.
