Default Narrowed My Searched Need Opinions

I am planning on buying within the next month one of the following and want some opinions. Please remember the boat is to to used primarily in rough Atlantic Ocean (my old 30 was great but way too small for how i want to run). The first boat is a staggered 39 number 6 drive 1995 Sutphen with a pair of blown 1000s.The second boat is a 3 person bolster ,number 6 drive 1990 41 Apache with staggered 1200 blower engines. The third boat is a 1997 Larry Smith 38 Scarab again with 6 drives and Merc 900SC.All three boats are priced within 20 grand of one another .Overall opinions would be a GREAT help here.

No,but consider the following .The Scarab and Sutphen are 9s (cosmetically)The Apache needs paint and a 6 man bolster put in which will add around 30 plus grand to the price ,I origionally was considering the 42 flat deck Revolution Race Boat on the net( that is in almost new )condition,BUT there is no way in this market that i will pay close to 200 grand for a soon to be 18 year old 3 bolster ex race boat.

Stormrider ,that would make my day too. Those guys NEVER wanted to hear the truth.(NO matter how you spend to modernize) in TODAYS market it is next to impossible to get over 150 grand for a 20 plus year old performance boat even if it is an Apache

My best guess :

Apache : Best dollar resale if maintain, great rough water boat can't beat the heritage.

Sutphen : Great rough water boat, fast hull, harder to sell very select crowd even though there well known ya have to be a sutphen guy.........

Scarab : Larry Smith's, fast well built, seem to be harder sells too.

I would buy them in the order mentioned although I like the looks of the scarab before the Sutphen.

P.S. Now would ya buy one please !

You got something against cigarette? I don't really care if you do or not. I'm just curious as to why it didn't make the list.

Is this the larry smith your talking about?

Out of the 3 - I'd go with the larry smith scarab. Those merc 900sc's may prove to be more reliable than the blown 1000s. I think you would do better in the resale with the scarab too. I'd throw out some really low offers - I've seen these boats drop $40,000. If the apache was in ship shape I'd go with it.

I really liked the cigarrette .The problem is the guy is FIRM on the 200 grand price ,not to mention a second bolster needs to be installed. Two hunded plus is crazy (to me at least for a 1991 race boat )As far as the Scarab thats the one.All the 3 mention can be had for 120-150 grand(Plus or minus)
