Northeast/New England Sutphen Reunion!!!

BTW...we all had a great time at Sacandaga..would have been nice to see you and your Dad, Dan. I just enjoyed that Lake. T-Mone jumped in Morgan's boat and ripped it up, then the great deluge took place and everyone just sat in the water until it passed. Went for a ride the day before on Jim's Sutphen. Runs like at bear. Talk later.

Saw your boat today next to it. That Dominator has been around here for a while. The past couple of weekends we have launched at the same time. He seems like a nice guy. One weekend he was pulling out when we pulled in to launch. Then we ran him down to Claudios.
Nothin for the Cig!

Nothin for the Cig!

It was a bit rougher than they were calling for but not bad.
It was a good first run over. The boat hadled well.
I ran about 50 MPH most of the way. ( I know thats slow for you guys) Over all I was very happy with the way she ran for a small boat. although it seems to be almost as big as my brothers 32 fountain fever if you go prop to nose. The bracket and the outboards give you a bit more boat.
At the mouth of the river we got into some good 4/5 footers at least on the way back with a following sea and although it was jumping it handled very well too.
A weird thing happened later on the river though We were making some runs just to see what she had and when I was trimmming the drives with the tabs quite a bit up.
I hit one drive a little more than the other.(fractured thumb didn't help)plus the indicators were sticking all day.
The boat imediately went into a nasty chine walk.
I think one prop was loading and unloading. It was very violent.
I backed out of the throttles slowly and regained control but in all our years of boating neither of us has ever seen anything like that.
I have heard the Rum runners have this problem but never thought it would be this bad.
Any thoughts?

If you had it trimmed pretty good you gotta wheel that sucker!! Sutphens are drivers boat. Hang it out and work the wheel. It was funny the first time me ran Tsunami some people on land thought we almost flipped the boat. It was just walkin.
The deep dead rise helps in the rough but going fast in clam its going to want to chine walk. The 26's run very well for their size and have great acceleration. Our 26 was great!

Well at least I know I am not the only one.
I used to be able to lift my 20 with the 350 right up on the pad in the back and it would just bounce alittle(porpoise) but it would run its best MPH this way.
So I had the tabs up. Drives were tucked pretty tight at 2 or 3 and I started to move of that spot to about 4 maybe 5, and boy did it get crazy fast.
With the sticking indicator I thought I had both moving and just wasn't showing it, but After I backed off of it, It was definately one out more than the other.
Yeah no Issues in the rough stuff at all the boat handled impeccably for its size.
I guess I just need some seat time to get a handle on how she runs.
Funny thing is my drag car does the same thing at about 145+ at the top end sometimes. Just gets too much air under it and does what we call waddling in drag racing. Pretty dangerous situation at 145.

so jeff,
how do you like it?.....
i know that chine walk thing...kind of bugs me,too, but at least it's well outside thef cruise/fun range...let's track down "sewfast" and get out and about..
..btw...we're going to block on the 18-20, if anyone else can't do the previous, we'd be glad to run out w/ya...even have a fat larson as a homebase....
c
(oh yea...if i get the port motor started....i freakin' hate electrical stuff...)
