Does anyone know of or heard anything about an 18ft Sutphen jet made in the 70s?

No, but lots of the boat builders built jets back in the day.

I see them on the web from time to time. That's just a pic I found. I don't know anything about that one.

Here's an 18 jet...Looks like these boys were having some fun without even being in the water. Bet nobody here has ever done that...:D

You can search on "Gran Sport" for a lot of info on my old 18' boat.

Is that your old boat "depth charge"? What kind of speeds, handling etc?

dave911 06-18-2008 01:01 PM

Not mine. Jet boats take LOT's of power to break 60mph. I'd estimate 450hp in the relatively deep Gran Sport...Good luck. D911

Yeah, that sounds right.... My 20' Jet (Taylor LP mold) 454 with some HO mods + lightning headers. -probably 425-450hp. Big for a jetboat, but still very light. Probably no where near as deep as the Sutphen, but she'll run 65 everyday with a best of 67.3 or so on GPS.

Thats actually the one I was looking at. What would be a good price to buy it at, any info on that particular boat?

There are also a couple of out drive 20's for sale in CT.
Ones on craigs list and the other is in the hartford new paper but you can pull it up on line too with a search for 20 sutphen.
These two are 10K and 12K

I am also selling my 20(also in CT) with a new 350 chevy, 15 hrs on the engine. 9500
I can't post a pic here but hthis is a link to my boat.

Jets bring a little less money than the outdrive boats and out drives are more efficient.

Theres a guy on one of the jetski sites I go to who took an 05 Gp1300R and changed it to a prop. It went from 67 MPH to 113 MPH with just the change to a prop.

The jet will eat up a lot more fuel too.

Jet boats I think handle better though.

my friend had a jet boat and they are a lot of fun, I just wanted you to now the differences.

30ct, if you want email me the pics and i'll post em for ya.

Love your 20, but I think your Jetski buddy is dreaming. A JetSki prop will get you 3 to 5mph tops (not 35mph).

This little jet boat could be bought for $5k, for sure. Its the orange one, with the three guys in it. Funny pic.

30ctsutphen 06-27-2008 04:51 PM

Looks like my boat is sold.
Thanks for the invite to post the pics though.

I will have you post some pics of my new Rum Runner next week though after I get it.

As for the Propski I will try and find the link to the ski. They were supposed to be bringing it out to mud bug Which is a get together for the fastest jet skis in the country but they weren't sure if they were gonna let the guy race it in the unlimited since it had the prop.

Heres a link to the propski Not sure if this thread has the MPH figures in this one he's working out the bugs but good reading anyway.

30ctsutphen 06-27-2008 09:39 PM

Wow! That is pretty cool. I forwarded the link to my buddies at Kawasaki Motors Corporation. Good stuff, but don't wipeout!

30ctsutphen 06-28-2008 06:21 PM

They are way cool! I have a 1970 17' Sutphen jet with an olds 455 and a berkley 12JE pump. Looks slightly different than the pictures shown here. Has a very cool factory hood/scoop- beautiful lines. maybe I will try and post a picture.
