Dad purchased a 182 in '70 or '71 from Richie when the plant was in New Jersey. Red, white interior with 500 HP Flagship and old Merc#2 drive. Had a line on it back in the mid '90's and lost track of it again -- still looking. Boat was lightly hit by a car on the port rear side -- repaired but I bet it shows today.
We really tore up Portage Lakes and Lake Cumberland back then -- in fact there was nothing that could touch us until a guy showed up with a turbo'd Schiadia about 3 years later.

We're out of Akron, Oh -- last I knew it was in Mantua, OH in a barn. Anybody got a clue!!

Jim, I know a guy that has a 18 in his garage with a #2 and a 427 set up. Don't, think it is all together but it should be sound. He is in Philly area. Would you be interested in it? Not sure of the year but it has to be up there obviously.

looking for a little help on valuation. I have a 1970 18' sutphen, volvo outdrive chrysler 318 (not original) has been in my family for 30 years. If I have the boat completely stripped and rebuilt, paint, engine, upholstery everything new. what is a good guess as to the valuation when I am done. I am considering this for my father's birthday. I know the cost of having it done, just looking for an idea how upside down I will be.

I would guess you would recoup 30 cents on the dollar if you were to sell it, but hopefully that's not the goal. The resale market stinks and old boats with the highest resale value are the likes of Cigarette and Apache.

You'll be 100% upside down and your dad will be 100% right side up ;-).

30% would value the boat at about 5K. I will not sell the boat after it is done. I am dealing with a few friends that think I am nuts, (they know they have a point) and are trying to talk me out of it from a throwing money away perspective. I am planning on inviting my dad to the 08' Mount Dora (Fl) annual antique boat show in March http://www.tabblo.com/studio/stories/view/264824/
and have it in the water ready to roll as a surprise. factory fresh... Also if I spend cash on this the wife will double it and I will have a new hot tub etc. I'm about 99% ready to go.
