Pulled the port motor today. Can see some more numbers;
140016379 right next to oil pressure sensor. F274 on the other side and GM 5 7 LG which is obvious.
Anyone reconginize these numbers?
Will post pics later if your into rust and salt!

Default Block #s

140016379 comes back as a 350 block that was available as a 2 and 4 bolt block . With a 2 pc rear seal flanged crankshaft. If the crank has a sharp line where it was stamped together its a cast crank. If it has a 1" Wide line its a forged crank. It also says it was used in 77-79 model years F274 is the date cast . Check the last number alot of times the cast is poor. it should be a 9 instead of a 4.
Once the flywheel and timing cover are off there will be numbers in there For instance (010) or (020) This is the amount of nickel cast into the block The higher the # the more nickel added. This make the block less brittle and prone to cracks and less suseptible to rust in the water jackets. High nickel blocks will get a rust coating but it wont penetrate to the point of perocity in theory. Im ready for those head cast #s This will tell what you really got. Look at the Cyl head Where the bottom cyl head short bolts are. A heavyweight casting will have a solid casting line all along the head. A lightweight casting will have half round cutouts along the area of the short head bolts near the spark plugs.

Thanks for the info Paul. She has the 9 as the last number and the solid casting line. Gotta hoist her off the stand to remove the flywheel.

You have the heavyweight casting heads that were last used in mid 70s they are the best for a marine application. However I just had a set of 1969 heavyweight 441 castings looked over by a good performance machine shop and got a price of 750.00 to upgrade them and complete valve job.
I have a line on brand new Dart heads 202/160 stainless valves 67cc vortec chambers complete for 700.00 pr. I have alot of info on small block stuff at good prices. Im doing a set of vortec roller motors right now.. Your gonna need more than me to turn trs drives . They are bulletproof but use alot of horsepower to turn them. PM me and I will be glad to send you some links. Maybe 383s or 406s are best for you. got a line on those too here in CT. Had a line on a pair of 454 drop ins last month for 3500 for the set freshwater cooled but their gone now.

If you need any good rods I am a dealer for CAT performance parts. I use thier H beam rods in all my engines and have never had 1 failure yet. Been running them in the 9's at 145 for years in my turbocharged pontiac with a long 6.625 length and big stroke.

Let me know if you need any I'll get you a real good deal.

I also have a 350 4 bolt engine out of a 20' 70 cigarette I had. Ran good but smoked so I swapped it out.

Needs a rebuild but Id sell it for $300.00 if you end up needed parts

Thanks for the offers to help out fellas! As long as these two motors check out healthy they are staying in the boat at least for now. I know the 350/TRS combo is not common, but we got it so going to have to make it work. Most all TRS I see still running are hooked to big blocks but why would'nt these motors have enough power to turn the drives?

Thanks for all the information Paul.

Does anyone know a good place to pick up parts for these motors like gasket sets?

CTsut,

May take you up on some of those parts. I still need to take more of the motor apart to see what I got. At first glance inside the oil pan it looks in pretty good shape.

They (350s) will work fine. Picture this , as the parts become more heavy duty they have bigger bearings /shafts and draw more power to turn. With a trs setup you also have a transmission to turn. what comes out of the engine may be 300 horsepower/350 ftlbs of torque for instance. What actually gets to the prop is less due to the parasitic draw that it takes to get the power there. 300 gross horsepower is what would be measured at the crank. Net horsepower is what gets to the prop. Kinda Like my paycheck I start with a big block 454 (gross) and wind up with a straight 6 chevy(net). What is important is the raw water cooling it does a job on the water jackets. I paid to have the blocks magnafluxed 45.00ea thats my insurance that im starting with something good. I have tons of small block stuff i can help with on the cheap. Im on a tight budget too. Just bought new high perf. teflon coated speed pro pistons today new 92.00 a set on ebay Marine gaskets are the same as automotive except head gaskets and some not even that. These will be fine http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/3-Fel...Q5fAccessories

OLMAKO 300.00 is a great deal on a 1970 core should have the 3970010 high nickel block.
