sutphen

I spoke to the owner about it he seemed like a very nice guy, He said to me that he lost his wife suddenly and lost interest in the boat.

30ctsutphen 01-14-2011 02:56 PM

Looks like a nice ride. Someone should take a ride and see it Post up what they see.

JamesGang 01-15-2011 12:48 PM

Hey Jeff
I think this is the same boat that was at Ocean Performance a number of years back. If so I looked it over pretty good. There was a salesman named Todd who told me what he knew about it and he had personally driven in in a storm. Said it ran the water unbelievable and he had it over 90. If it is the same boat, it is sweet.

30ctsutphen 01-16-2011 06:20 PM

OP huh I never saw it there but I was out of boating for quite a few years while doing the drag racing thing and the red 30 was apart.

Probably during that time.

Seems to me to be a pretty good deal on a nice newer boat.

OL40SVX 01-16-2011 07:00 PM

It was down at Ocean for a period of time years ago.

Keytime 08-05-2012 11:58 PM

Same boat?

If I bid and am the only bidder and get the boat for $35,000 or even less than his $45,000 price, I don't get a test drive it's as it sits. Considering I am a buyer with no boat to sell and funds available I would anticipate better treatment. I've never been able to charge people to test drive my powerboats when I sold them. I guess I'll be moving on to other sellers.

So now do you wonder why it hasn't been sold? Sounds a little arrogant to me , charging for a test ride with a check in your hand!

Imagine what he must charge to let you have it surveyed. :lolhit:

Seems like a lot of bang for the buck. Really curious how solid it is overall.

For the sake of convo, any reputable marinas near Sicklerville, NJ that do thorough surveys?

Keytime 08-08-2012 03:55 PM

Strange. Starting bid keeps getting raised. Was $35k, saw $40k, now $43,900. Buy It Now still $45k.

Surprised there's not much more discussion on this boat, esp at this price and low hours.

He said you had to have check in hand AND pay to test the boat? Or have check in hand OR pay to test the boat?

I could see making someone pay for the test if they could be a tire kicker(I personally wouldn't), but if someone shows up with check in hand they are obviously serious.

I agree that seems like a lot of boat for the money. It was just for sale a few months ago for almost twice that.

dieselprop 08-09-2012 10:04 AM

Moisture meter first and cash in hand you will get you a ride.

Cash is king.

BUP 08-09-2012 11:08 AM

This boat has been 4 sale a long time. It started out at 89k. It is in the Northeast where Sutphen's are well known so I would wonder why it has not sold over the years.

Also a 12 year old boat / motors with 72 hrs on it. Anytime anyone buys something new for themselves they use it until it gets old or pita.

I would think this boat would have logged 72 hours by 2002 not 2012. Also boats are better off with running time on them than no time / alot of sitting.

Wonder if those motors get oil primed before start ups when that time comes around and hopefully properly stored internally & maintained for those long sitting periods.

Stormrider 08-09-2012 01:12 PM

From the ad contact info, it seems to be for sale(owned?) by an engine builder.

It does make you wonder. But, I know people that boat almost every weekend in June-Aug and only put 10 hours on their boats!

I have been watching this boat for a while. From what I have heard, the seller is a reputable shop (I have never personally dealt with them). I noticed the flame arrestors say MRD on them. I am curious if they built the engines. I was not looking for a new boat until next season, but this could be a very good deal. I know Sutphens run incredible. I wonder if the boat has been raced. The trailer says F2-50 on it.

Keytime 08-10-2012 02:47 PM

Starting bid now $38500 and buy-it-now price is $39999. Hard to keep up with!

Stormrider 08-10-2012 02:55 PM

Odd, why not give it a chance at a price?
5 days and a price drop already?

The boat was at the dealers for quite a while after that. When my friend sold the 35 it had less then 15 hours on it. If anyone has any questions, call Ernie at 401-261-6225.

Ken, it looks like the x dimension might be a little low, so 90mph might be a little generous, also no one has any idea what those engines really are!

The engines and drives came out of his Scarab, currently known as " NAIL IT ". He never had the boat long enough to dial the combination in, but ran in the upper 80's the way it was.

Didn't that boat have Bmax's at one time.

Bravos are pretty reliable if built correctly, that's why we praise peter noppers work up here! My 33 sutphen has bravos with about 650 h.p. Per side, boat runs low 90s. Changed shift plates , that's the only thing in 4 years!

Boxer 08-15-2012 07:06 AM

Pete Nopper modified my Brovo 1 five years ago [MAX MACHINE upper,IMCO LOWER]. Knock on wood, haven't had a failure yet. The engine is a 572 with a 1071 blower pushing a 30 foot boat at 6000 rpm. This past year , during the annual check ,a bearing was changed on the vertical shaft. He has kept many Northeast boaters with modified engines and Brovo drives on the water.
