Not to stir the pot any more, but I heard (and saw) that riding in that boat in flat water was like riding on Flippers back! Either a Sutphen design flaw.... OR poor driving skills ??

Kevin, in case you need a little offense here. I think you will be fine. And if all else fails, at least you know where the women will wind up.

Oh no! I think I might even have a video of Justin and Jeff discussing that same topic on Jeff's boat! :party-smiley-004:
Justin: Jeff, this boat sure porpoises a lot. Jeff: It's the flat water, it just needs a little bit of tab. Justin: Oh. But, well... okay. Minutes later the tabs are casually dropped while the boat was WOT (Justin is looking a little green in the face at this point)... Boat: 71mph, 70, 69... 65, 64... 57, 56, 55... But the porpoising was about gone! Kevin starts pulling away, Jeff takes that tiny bit of tab back out... Boat: 55mph, 56, 57, 58... 70, 71... http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t...on/popcorn.gif It wasnt poirposing though it was chine walking and justin is a wussss! sadly that did happen! |

Maybe a little bit of chine walk was included for good measure, but that thing was hopping up and down like flipper is in my avatar!

I am willing to bet by years end it will need a tug tow home too, if the DEP gets a hold of that noise pollution your spewing!:evilb: The good news is when rafting up it will be like tying up to a fixed piling dock its so long, I think your new name should be captain stubing! |
Hey, the Sutphen 21 ssx is a beautiful ride and lookin forward to seein' it in person, but its unfair of Jeff to make this thread all about him, so Im moving the "Jeff" portion to the NE section. Congrats on a beautiful new ride! :drink:

Kev if you actually knew any of the boaters in your local area youd know that Mike is in the swamps right now hunting alligators with machine guns!LOL
For the sutphen guys if you wanna know why that boat was running that way it was because the lowers on OB 's tend to get hot if you surface them and they will push out the oil and seals, then the suck in water when they cool So I was artifically running them low in the water( hydraulic bracket) to keep them cool. It made the boat a bear to run in flat water and it needed tab to keep it from acting stupid with all that drag. Problem is solved this year (HOPEFULLY) with some vent kits to let the pressure out of the power units and oil back in rather than water. Its a known problem with mercury sport master for about 15+ years now. THeres not much going on in the exclibur forum and Kev wishes he had a CIG still so thats why he comes here. To dorwn his misery. |

Guys...if your comments dont have anything to do with the 21SSX.... perhaps you should start another thread.

Does anyone have any pictures they can post of the Sutphen 21SSX when they saw it out on the water or at one of the shows while it was on display?
I need to ask Morgan if the back seat was made to be removable. Looks like 4 bolts and remove the 2 hoses from the gas tank, and it would slide right out. Sure would make it easier for someone to work on the engine. A few observations since I took possession of the boat. The front deck is truly amazing. I really didn't notice until I had it hooked to the back of the truck and looked in the rear view mirror. it has a beautiful curve molded in. Its not flat. Pictures just dont do it justice. Under the front deck its wide open below. Carpeted, and plenty of room. My donzi has a water ski compartment molded in that might hold two skis at best. The Donzi does have 2 more compartments, one in the floor and one under the rear seat, to be fair. I love the Lonseal flooring. Easy to clean and indestructible. That's about it until we can get the boat out and run it, hopefully when I return from vacation at the end of the month. |
Wow does that look sexy! Congrats again amd looking forward to seeing it!!!
