The truck is packed and full of diesel and is sitting in the driveway. No road trip for me.
Unfortunately the mechanical survey came back poor. Both engines have lower compression and variability (98, 111, 118, 140, 122, 130, 117, 118 etc.) and higher leak down (13-17%), after speaking to two engine builders they both felt like both motors are going to need complete rebuilds if the blocks were still good. The owner was not willing to negotiate on price at all despite this. “The motors run, therefore they are fine” I am just happy I insisted on having the boat checked out before driving down to Texas from New York despite being told there would be “no disappointments” and everything was in tip top shape and the owner was “meticulous about maintenance” and “there is no reason to have it surveyed but do what you want”. There was also a good size gouge in the gel and a few other scratches that I got pictures of but when I specifically asked if there were any bad spots or blemishes in the gel I was told “Only a few minor scratches”. I would not qualify something needing gel repair as a “minor scratch”
So I am bummed out about the boat but very glad I got the boat checked prior to making the trip, I guess my standards may be higher than others. The good news is that I still really want a 34 Sutphen I really like the boats. I loved the way they rode THANK YOU Anthony. I will have to check the blue and white one at city island now.
Any other 34’s out there for sale but not listed?
