Default What is the Future of Sutphen?

Just curious if Sutphen will build again? Jr. has the molds for the 26, although I don't think one has been built in years. With Sr.'s passing, is there a future....or is Sutphen history?

I think they’re still there, keeping busy with restoration/update works, they just need somebody to step up and order a very cool boat with a heritage to get thie word out again. 🙂

I’m sure they’re not on their own, very tough market for a small volume classic performance boat.

When i was in contact with mme Sutphen, she told me when m sutphen passed away, she finished the boats that needed finished for delivery, sold the builing in less than 1 month , schrink wrapped the molds, and they are for sale since then...

so ss far as i know they are out of the game and those bost molds will only be used when someone else buys them...

she offered me the molds but i bought Charlie McCarthy's

That’s disappointing to read ^^^ but not surprising. So much history in the brand, I hope someone picks up the molds and does something good with them.

Probably not the the most appealing model on OSO but I’d love to see the 21 outboard back in production. Timeless design and outboard power.

Richie Jr. owns Sutphen Performance Boats and the molds for the updated 21 and 27. Both original molds (20&26) were stretched by one foot. He also has the molds for the 16’. Several new 21s and 16s ended up in Canada.

Rich Senior (RIP) owned Sutphen World Champion Powerboats LLC and the molds for the larger boats. The last boat produced was the red 31 with twin OBs that’s currently for sale. That hull was originally going to be an IO boat but converted to the OB. That hull had been sitting unfinished for years before the current owner bought it and they gave it a 2018 HIN. It’s a really sharp boat IMO.

Im not sure if Richie Jr now has access to the larger molds.

Ing I think there was a white 34(?) built around 2016/17 which was likely the last. It would be nice if at least the 31 somehow made a comeback.

My friend here in Cape Coral bought the building and keeps a bunch of cars in in. It still has Sutphen on the front door. The molds were on the side of the shop for a while, but have now been removed. I'm not sure where they went. I'll always be a fan of Sutphen, had a bunch of fun in this boat from 1987 until 1999!! Those 2 kids in the boat are now 33 and 35 years old!!!

Incredible boats and we’re way ahead of their time with construction. We built a 33 for my buddy last year. Some deep bravos and some 600’s with out any dialing in or messing with set up, with some random 3 blades the boat was in the upper 80’s. What a joy it was to run.

I owned this 21 for a season. The construction and build quality were exceptional.. Richie Jr builds a very nice boat.

Sweet boat ^^^
There’s a very nice looking 21 advertised at the moment, Not a bargain basement price for a 12 year old boat but difficult to value one today, there’s so few around.
