New 2005 Sutphen 210 Bowrider!!!
I'm currently having a 2005 Sutphen 210 Bowrider built. Yes you read that correctly...a BOWRIDER! Three years ago I would have kicked my own ass for mentioning the word bowrider but after having owned a 22 Talon with 300PM, it became evident that I needed a performance boat with a more family friendly layout. 99% of my boating is inland lakes so I was looking for a 20' to 22' boat. No offense to the west coast offerings but I wanted an east coast bred boat. After searching and talking to many builders it just so happened Rich Sutphen Jr. had been planning on retooling his classic 20' design. Rich and I talked over several weeks and came up with the new boat design. The major features of the new boat are:
-The classic hull and running surface (variable to 20 degree deadrise) is being extended to a true 21'. Remember this hull was an original design and not a splashed Challenger or Shadow.
-The deck will be a totally new design. Tapered from the bow. Adding approx. 2" in height amidship to the transom. The fairing will be molded into the deck as will a base for Zero Effort style throttles.
-Available in I/O or O/B (no transom well).
-The O/B version will have the rear bench area moved aft almost 12" to open up the cockpit and still retain a usable sun pad.
-The walk-thru bowrider area will have seating and storage with recessed stainless grab rails. The classic Sutphen profile will be retained.
-After this bowrider project is complete. Rich plans on making a second closed deck version or Sport version.
-Base price for the boat with the 225 Pro XS or MX-6.2/Bravo is approximately 38K.
Dealing with Rich Jr has been a real pleasure. He was willing to entertain outside ideas and doesn’t have the “my way or the highway” mentality. Please give him a call with any questions at (973) 770-8400 or [email protected]. Sutphen Performance Boats is located near Lake Hopatcong, NJ.

Congratulations, please keep us up to date on the progress of your new boat. I've always been a huge fan of Sutphen. Do they have any rough sketches of the new hull and the deck? Good Luck. Kirk

No sketches yet. They will be extending the hull mold first. Then pop the bottom and work off it to make the new deck. Roughly the new deck will be similar to the larger boats with a molded fairing. They are going to produce sketches with my paint scheme which I will post but it will be awhile.

Just an update;
The new mold for the 21' hull is being prepared for this build. This process should take a week or two.

The build has begun as of 04/12/05. Gel and first layers of glass are in.
Fri, 04/22/05, Coring near complete.
Wed, 04/27/05, Coring and stringers complete. Hull should be popped from the mold in a day or two.
Fri, 04/29/05, hull was popped from the mold. No blemishes! No problems! Now Richie is working on the new deck design and mocking up the new deck plug. Should be a couple weeks of work.
I hope to post a few pics soon.

Got a look at the progress yesterday, Wed, 05/18/05.
WOW!
Anyone who is a fan of Sutphen or boats with the classic offshore look, are going to be blown away when the new 21' is done. Can't post pics yet. Rich is about half way done with mocking up the deck plug but you can get a sense of the new lines. Sort of a mix of the twenty footer on steroids and a baby 32'.
