not sure about the alpha setup. you may want to ask the question in the tech section.

How deep do the threads go inside the bar. My span is a bit shorter so if I cut off an inch on each side it will work for me.

The threads go in about 3" on each end. And the male threads are about 1-1/2" long. Theorectically you could cut 1" off each side and still have 1/2" of room.

How would you plan on cutting this ??

I have a friend with a machine shop. We could probably try the bandsaw with a diamond blade, or just stick it in the lathe and turn it down? If the hole is deep enough I can even run a tap into the end and re-thread a bit deeper if necessary?
Let me take another measurement of my boat tomorrow. I'll pull it out of the water and check again.
