Default 500EFI's, Vortechs, Low hours. Low price

I have a boat coming in that I purchased and am pulling the engines. They are 1999 model 500EFI's with 246 and 268 hours showing on clocks. It is my understanding the the blowers have been on there for approx 20 hours.

Here is the history that I have on them. The guy I am buying the boat from has owned it for approx 4 years. He used it for 2 years, and had a mechanic at the marina where the boat was kept perform the maintenance on them. 2 years ago he broke the starboard engine. He left it on the lift for a year and then it has been sitting in it's current boat yard on the trailer for the past year. I inspected the boat yesterday. Both engines turn over very smoothly.

It appears to me that the srtarboard engine just overheated and may have shut down. It did get pretty hot as the headers are discolored and the bottom of the engine hatch is warped from the heat.

I am selling these as I have a new set of engines sitting on the floor of my shop and don't have the comupters or tools to work on the EFI's.

Engines come completewith headers, tail, bellhousings, transom tips. I am just going to un bolt the engines from the boat and un hook the wires and fuel lines.

Put on a pallet and enclosed crate and shipped to you in the continental US.

They are here and I fired off the port engine today. his is the one that is supposed to be fine. Well it is. It runs like it was just shut off yesterday. I will be analyzing the starboard this week, but whatever is wrong is going to be very cheap to fix. I have it narrowed down to probably a bent valve or a head gasket. I guess it could have a hole in the piston, but I don't see any signs of blow by etc.....

If somene doesn't send a check quick, I am probably going to leave them in the boat and jsut fix what is wrong. Then I will keep them running all summer and raise the price and sell them as a running pair.

Act fast.

I was taking out the plugs to run a compresion test, and noticed that there was only 7 plugs in the engine. I wonder what happened to #5???

Coil wire was un plugged from distributor. Is there a chance that they missed something all that time ago???

Getting a fresh battery for it today.

Stay tuned......

Did you get the motor up and running? Figure out what the problem was?

The starboard engine fired off a few minutes ago like there was nothing wrong with it. After a few revs though it started popping and sputtering.

Guess I'll investigate some more tonight after I write some more files, and pay some more bills. Boat is starting to intruige me.

Stay tuned.

Had another offer come in on them today. After today though, I really want to run them and see what kind of nuts this boat has before I take it apart.
