Splines look fine to me from what you can see in the pics. Rust is just cosmetic. Nothing a little sandpaper and rattle can can't fix. Hardly dumpster material if the splines and rubber inserts check out.

Yeah, I would think that if I saw rust too, in the splines. But since the splines are well greased and the edges nice and clean I might take a coupler for less than 1/2 list. Surface rust on a boat part, guess I should have painted them all black and sold them as new.....

When the splines are sharpened to a point or sharp edge at the top of the spline their usually junk..Tieir is soppose to be a flat edge at the top of the splines..
