Most likely a hole in the piston due to setup or bad fuel. Your friend most likely did a fine job and your lesson maybe needs closer evaluation. I've built engines for friends that had trouble down the road, which at first they implied I did something wrong, only to discover the owner himself did something to cause the failure. Good luck with the sale and remember never to look a gift horse in the mouth.

Lol thanks for the Dickish diagnosis. Your assumptions have caused you to have the taste of rubber in your mouth, which I would assume your used to from putting your foot into your mouth post smart ass remarks which you think are Whitty at the time yet are actually ill though out phrases that should have never been made without knowing all the variables in the equation.
Not a hole in the piston. Heads are off. Burned/stuck oil rings on 3 and 5
