1990 Gen 4 454 4-bolt main long block
#1
I have a big block chevy 454 4 bolt main engine from a 1990 bravo boat. That's what i was told when i got the engine and from looking up the date codes on it, it seems to hold true. As far as i can see its never been molested. I haven't pulled the heads off to check the bore size but i don't see anything to indicate the pistons have been replaced or any markings on the caps etc... It has peanut port heads and was a 310hp engine. I was told the engine blew a head gasket and got water into the oil...they decided to replace the engine instead. There is some surface rust internally and some spots on the crank but i'm sure they could be polished out. If it were me i would at the least hot tank the block and polish the crank journals and put new bearings in just to be safe. But there are no spun mains and i haven't pulled the connecting rod caps but none are discolored from heat so i can only assume they are all good as well. The crank is cast....not forged...numbers on the crank are 353039
Casting numbers on the block are: 14015445 which says its a 454 that was made between 1978-1990 in 2 or 4 bolt mains.
The date code on the front of the block is: 05138XW which according to mercruiser is a 1988-1992 7.4 liter engine for Bravo and holds up to the information i was told that it was a 1990 engine.
you can see here: http://www.marinemechanic.com/merc/d...lockcodes1.pdf
Looking for $500obo and i'll give you the wooden shipping pallet the replacement engine came on for transport. I'd prefer pickup but if you want it shipped i can strap it down to the pallet and wrap it in plastic and send it freight.....i'd prefer you do the legwork if you want it shipped.
Any questions just ask thanks.
