I believe is was part of the 320EFI and the 300 Tempest package from 86-88. I picked up about 5mph as well with my 430hp 185 searay. 75 GPS. After I sold mine, the guy put it behind 520hp and snapped the upper shaft in a Donzi 18 or something like that.

It is a standard Alpha gimbel not a Gen 2, but I made my gen 2 gimbel work with the SS.
