Updated: 07.06.10
Officials are searching Lake Conroe for a 23-year-old white female who reportedly jumped from party barge for a swim around 11:20 p.m. Monday.
Deputies of the Montgomery County Precinct 1 Constable Department Marine Division responded to a Montgomery County Central Dispatch call on a missing person, who was reported to be Augusta Marie Newmeyer , who is five-feet, five-inches tall, weighing 125 pounds with medium length blonde hair, according to a Precinct 1 Constable’s Office press release. A deputy arrived to the area located on the northwest side of Lake Conroe between Walden and Bentwater.
Along with the Marine Division, Fire Boat 94 and the Lake Conroe Forest Fire Boat also responded to the location and started searching for Newmeyer, who reportedly jumped from the “Just For Fun” party barge, which was anchored in the cove. The operator of the party barge called 9-1-1 after learning Newmeyer jumped off the barge and said she was going to swim to shore.
Witnesses stated they watched her swim south towards the Walden Yacht Club for about 20 yards then they did not see her anymore. There were 27 other people onboard and two crew members.
The United States Coast Guard was contacted and deployed a helicopter which made several grid
searches of the area. The fire department diver utilized rapid deployment equipment and searched the immediate area with negative results. Officials continued to search the area by water and by land with negative results.
During the investigation, deputies spoke with the victim’s roommate and a missing person’s report was made. The Marine Division, Texas Parks and Wildlife, Precinct 1 Dive Team and the United States Coast Guard are still making grid searches of the area Newmeyer was last seen.
