They should have got a bid from Gregory Performance...

Woodlands CVB approves $240,000 boat renovations

The Woodlands Convention and Visitors Bureau approved a contract with Pro Yacht Management for the refurbishment of the six Waterway Cruisers at a cost of $240,000, or around $40,000 per boat.

Buck Beasley, owner of Pro Yacht, a small business in Kemah established in 1998, outlined improvements to the CVB board Tuesday. The board unanimously approved Pro Yacht as the vendor and needs to complete the contract before work can begin.

CVB President Nick Wolda said the process will be performed two boats at a time and will take about six to eight weeks to complete per pair, depending on the weather. Ideally, Wolda said, the first set of boats could be out of the water by the end of July and the project completed in October in time for the holiday season.

Funding for the project comes from a 1 percent hotel occupancy tax in 2011, budgeted as $500,000 in the 2011 budget. While $180,000 had been budgeted for the refurbishment ($30,000 per boat), Wolda reminded the board that the boats were valued at $800,000 and were donated by The Woodlands Development Company at no cost.

“Our operational goal is to have them in the black in five years,” said Nelda Blair, CVB board member and township director.

Beasley also said it is common for Pro Yacht to be 10-15 percent below the budgeted amount for restoration projects.

Although Beasley said boats similar to the Waterway Cruisers are not normally expected to last beyond five or six years, with the proposed improvements, he believes the boats can last “indefinitely with proper care and maintenance.” He guaranteed the finish on the boats for 10 years based on his recommendation of paints and improvements.

“If you were happy with them right now, wait ’til you see what we’re gonna do to them,” Beasley said of the Waterway Cruisers, which he referred to as “ugly ducklings.”

Among the proposed improvements include the removal of algae from the bottom of the boats, moving the exhaust closer to the water line, painting the hull, the interior and as many as eight coats on the bottom, as well as the installation of a rubber rub railing to absorb the impact of collisions.

Labor costs about $24,000, while materials cost up to $14,000 and removal and return by crane and trucks, as well as storage costs about $3,000.

They did, he was going to do the work for four old video games and some red hair dye but the boats were going to run 151 mph, run on water and dehydrogenated vegatable oil.....

but they were going to have to sail the boats up the San Jacinto river to Hodges house were the restoration was going to take eleventy billion years :) and be done with spare parts from Crap Shoot and Armstrongs Ciggy..... and they only had a ten minute warranty.

Boats were bidded to BigAndy first but they thought the 20 year rebuild time was a little lengthy. They also grew tired of hearing which famous gangsters brothers cousin rode in which seats of each vessel. :evilb:
