this is some chit Lefty would try and do.....
I just inherited a 1987 47' Apache. It was a triple engine boat. The engines are long gone and the boat has been sitting idle on its trailer ever since I have known about it. The thing is, I can't afford to put three engines in it but I still want to use it. The old #3 speedmasters are still on the transom and keep water out. I am planning on putting a single engine in the center and leaving it at that.
After looking at the engines Mercury offers the absolute biggest one that I will be able to afford is the 5.0 liter V8 (220 hp). I figure that since it's a V8 it should have plenty of power. It won't be the fastest boat around, but I mainly plan on using the boat for bar hopping and getting attention at the marinas, so all I really need is an engine that will get it from point A to point B. Since it will always be tied to the pier at the bars and you can see the triple #3 speedmasters on the transom nobody will know that it's only a single engine boat.
Do you think I will have any issues getting the 5.0 liter Merc to connect with the #3 drive? I don't think it should be that hard, do you? Top speed would probably be about 35-40 mph don't you think?
