TOPPS Clear Lake run to Lake Charles

TOPPS Conroe bunch,

The TOPPS Clear Lake group made our run to Lake Charles this past weekend to L'Auberge Du Lac Casino Resort. Another gentleman and myself organized the run and have all the contacts if y'all ever want to make the trip. Although the north wind blew a lot, we all had a fantastic time. Clear Lake to Lake Charles was 138 miles. It was a great time with food, rooms, overnight docking, unbelievable pool area, and large casino. I think it would be a great run for you guys. Let me know if I can help if y'all decide to go. Hope to see you all on our June 16 poker run (Look me up in the orange Black Thunder). TH (Tommy)

txlefty 04-16-2007 01:41 PM

That would be a blast! Please let us know when ya'll do it again! Hope to see ya'll at Tickfaw! We should have 15-20 boats from Conroe there!

Just got in last night so no pics yet. I do have some of the resort though:

i heard it was more expensive to keep your boat in the marina than it was for a room....

THLWL 04-16-2007 06:44 PM

$4 per foot for marina which includes spa access including showers. However, guest hosts negotiates it down depending on your spending activity. Hotel is $229 to $249. You can always dock your boat, enjoy the resort, and then dock and stay at the hotel ($99) near the Bennigan's just up the creek.

THLWL 04-19-2007 07:50 AM

Some pics of trip are now on TOPPS' Clear Lake website.

We are heading on the same trip next weekend with about 10 boats. We do have a planner for the run but I would enjoy having your information also. This will be the first run for all of us to Lake Charles so your information will be very helpful

I'm out for this year. Got boat back from repairs after 12 weeks downtime and been out 3 times. All 3 times, I came back on 1 motor. Wouldn't trust my boat to make a trip past Red Fish Island right now. Gerrit - you can contact Grant to see if there is any TOPPS' interest. Tom - I still have all the run info if you need it. Tommy

H2Xmark 09-28-2007 08:04 PM

James, you and Tammy thinking about going? Are you going to launch and leave from Clear Lake. We are trying to free up the weekend and go. It will be fun, we didn't take the boat last time due to mech. problems and weather, we drove and had a great time. Want to take a long run with the new boat.

tomtbone1993 10-02-2007 04:54 PM

I am not sure of all of the details. It looks like TomTBone is organizing. Maybe he can fill us in on the details. His post says they are leaving Galveston around noon on Friday. Where at in Galveston are they meeting to leave from? We are still working on our schedule to try and get the weekend off.

The game plan for now is leaving Friday the 12th at 10:00AM out of Galveston. We picked Galveston, cause we did not know of a safe place in Clear Lake to store our trucks and trailers for 3 days. " we are open for ideas"
Cruise to Lake Charles party Friday and Saturday, and return back Sunday mornnin....

Also none of us going have made this trip before, Tommy gave me all his info. I do have a Chartplotter/GPS....so anyone who wants to tag along or lead is more than welcome...Tom

Always Late 10-03-2007 07:58 PM

Hey Tom James here I think we met at PAPPAS during Baja bash last weekend. We are with TOPPS Clear Lake and made the run last april. I did not store the run in our GPS but going through the big ditch its a no brainer. Is that how you guys are wanting to run or go offshore?
Where are you guys staying at?
Also the trucks and trailers can be left under the Kemah bridge. We have left our truck there overnight alot and no problems. I have been told that Kemah police cruise the parking lot regularly

THLWL 10-03-2007 09:59 PM

Tom. Call Ken Volbrecht, the manager at Endeavor Marine (the big dry storage area behind West Marine on Nasa Rd 1 next to Marine Max). He's in TOPPS and has a large parking lot where trailers are kept for Poker Run. He also has good docks for loading folks in to boat after putting boats in to water. Should be safer than Galveston or Kemah. Just my 2 cents. Tommy

ps: James - it is not a "no brainer" on the return trip with Guy navigating (LOL)!!!!!

He's not planning on going is he.

T. Rober was going to talk to the Endeavor for us, or have James call. That would be fine for us to leave from there.

Endeavor sounds like a good deal after speakin to Rober. We can run the ditch or offshore or both...its all good.

We are satyin at La Bargue :cool-smiley-027:

Always Late 10-04-2007 11:24 PM

I called Ken Volbreck at Endeavor and we can park trucks and trailers there. We just have to park in a certain spot. But it's on the other side of the lake from the best ramp.

We called La Bargue tonight and they have no rooms for Fri night and limited for Sat night. So whats the scoop for rooms.

Tom you can call me at 832-236-6690.

THLWL 10-05-2007 08:43 AM

James, Where we got fuel on our run at Bowtie Marina in Contraband Bayou, if you keep going past the marina, there is a hotel and Bennigans with docking in a no wake zone. It's not L'Auberge quality, but I hear it's ok. Don't remember the name, but Bowtie would know at 337-478-0130. T

txlefty 10-05-2007 10:38 AM

Let me know how many rooms ya'll need. We have a pretty strong connection at L'Auberge. We can TRY to get ya'll in on Friday.

James we got our schedule worked out and can go. Let me know what you guys are doing for rooms. If you all leave from Endeavor it will be great. That is where we keep our boat. Let me know the details and if we can get rooms at Laberge cool, if not the one Tommy was talking about would work. I think the motel Tommy was talking about is called the Inn on th Bayou. Look it up online. It looks nice and has some dock space. I sent them an e-mail to see if they have rooms and dockspace available. It might work if we can't get rooms at the Casino hotel. What did they charge you last time for dock space?

We have hashed out a few different unloading ares. We have decieded to go with the orignal plan and leave out of Galveston. I spoke with T Roper this morning. He was going to get in touch with "Always Late". We as of today plan on leaving Conroe between 6-7:00AM Friday, will need to gas up and launch 5 to 6 boats. That should put us around the 10:00 to 10:30 time line to be ready to roll.

Where would be a good place for us to meet in the water? We will be launchin at the Galveston Yacht Basin.

Sorry for the changes, I was not aware we have guest comming from everywhere, and arrangements had already been made at the yacht basin.

No problem, we have to go that way anyways. We are not going to cut across the East Bay to Stingarees. We are not familiar enough with that route. We will go down the ship channel to the ditch. Give Always Late the info and we will meet you there outside of the yatch basin. I am not real sure exactly where that is located. If it is the one in Galveston Harbor, down from the ferry by Fisherman's Wharf, I know where it is at.

will have you an answer tonight or tomorrow on location, I have not been there in 15 years....:cool-smiley-027:

Gerrit - Galv Yacht Basin is just past the ferry landing and not all the way in to where Fisherman's Warf is. As you idle in to the yacht basin, the fuel dock will be on your left. Just past the fuel dock will be the boat ramp where they are all putting in. You can go past the boat ramp and idle while waiting for them.

Just a warning guy's - the boat ramp is steep so your exhaust will be under water if you're not careful.

Hope y'all have a great time. The float up bar at pool is a must. Just watch the area when running through Port Arthur/Sabine Pass. Don't drift over to right (south to bay). Keep it between buoys and remember that the buoys will swap colors (red to green & back) in the ICW. Stop your boat and get your bearings if you need to - be safe!
