Default Financing for Older boat (1980s - 1990s)

WOW...1st of all...I didn't even know this section was down here. I've been boating in Clear Lake for several years and a member of OffshoreOnly for over a year now. Glad to find you guys!!

I've been thinking about selling my 22' Scarab Excel to buy a bigger boat. I'm thinking something in the 27-30' range, but I only want to spend $15-25K. I've found many boats I like and would be perfect for my needs (including a sweet Magnum Maltese with a lot of potential from a forum member).

Anyways...I don't know if financing for older boats is available. I was told to come on down here and ask in this section.

What say you folks?

I would probably check the insurance and finance section under the general discussion. As far as I know finacing for older boats is available with at least a 20% down payment. I would call someone at NewCoast. A lot of people in the finance section seem to recommend them.

I talked to Newcoast (the forum member here at OSO) and he said they are only writing $50K or more loans at this time for power boats.

I didn't think of that. It's too bad Key Bank isn't doing boat loans anymore. I had my '82 financed through them and they were great. I'm no finance expert so I'm afraid I can't help you. Good luck and keep us infromed if you find someone.
