Tow Rig !
 

2005 Limited, 6.0 PS, 4X4, DVD, etc etc....

I am putting new rims/tires and a small bull bar on it... went to get that done today and the tires are on back order 4 weeks...

I was thinking of BFG 285/70/17s all terrains on chrome rims ( it has BFG 265/16s now), so the pictured rims/tires will be for sale, the bull bar is smaller and will be black on the top part with a chrome bottom part/ skid plate... any other ideas... I dont want to get too red-necky or lift it up. It will be used for towing mostly and occasionaly at work. I am hoping to keep the ride quality up as high as possible and upgrade wheels and tires only....except the tires are on back order :mad:

Offshoredrillin will hopefully find someone here to put the clear bra on it as well...

Any ideas? or does anyone have a line on tires/rims/accessories? Thanks Jim

congrats Mash, I'll make some calls today. Go to www.zainobros.com for the polymer. It works wonders on Black, and is easy to apply, throw some 5% tint on as well and you're pimpin. I'll check on some prices for some 20's or 22's that are still tow rated :D...dont listen to that yutz stecz, he will be cooking steak on his hot trans pan...his pal Rob

I would go a different route. I would put a 20 or 22 inch brushed or chrome rim on, and go with Nitto Grapplers for tires. Just an idea different than the standard offroad approach.


Here's my truck with a 20 inch "Ice Metal" wheel and Grapplers. (Try to ignore the killer Chevy they ride on if possible :D )

Brandon, Is yours lifted? It looks great! :cool: I am trying to stay away from lifting but I might throw a 4 inch on so I can get some bigger tires stuffed under....They can do a 4 inch on mine for 1100.00.

Thanks! Mine is lifted 2 inches. The nice thing about the Ford is the fender well is bigger than the Chevy. You shouldn't have to lift it to fit a 20 or 22 under it. I have 2 friends with Ford Superduty Powerstokes running 22's with no lift. They both look great. I think that Excursion would look really slick with a similar setup. :cool:

I think I am going to go in that direction. A bunch of guys at work here have the Nittos and love them. I am going to look into that route...What size tires are you and your friends running on the trucks?, they look great! I am not a huge fan of the bigger, fatter tires....Thanks

I put new wheels on my Hummer and tried to sell the factory ones. I got offered 25.00 each!. I decided to keep them and sell the custom ones after I sell the Hummer. Also, New Jersey is the greatest place.

Are 20" and 22" rims okay for towing and hauling loads?? An engineer friend at Ford said they will not put on any bigger than 18" rims on the trucks because they have been breaking the rims in testing. Any thoughts or input on that. Also with the bigger rim, the sidewall will likely get shorter and take some of the cushion out of the ride wouldn't it?? Ford offers a 18" rim option on the "X" but I don't know if it is available yet (it says late availability in the brochure) and comes with goodyears.

Also I heard the Ford and Hummer have the same lug pattern?? Does anyone know if this is true??

I am asking because my next ride will be the same exact one pictured in post #1.

Hey Masher: TSG sent me a pm and here are my specs: 22" KMC Backseats with 325/50/22 Terra Grapplers. I love this set up and it looks good too! I did lift the front 2" to level the truck but I have a buddy who didn't lift his at all but his rubs in tight turns quite a bit. Mine barely rubs in the most extreme left hand turns. All yall guys with your big trucks

You will be wishing you had a Honda like me with those gas prices still going up. It still gets 42 mpg with the boat behind it and its 4 wheel dr all the time too.

Does anybody know how I can disconect the breaks on the Myco when I back up the drive way? It strains just a little.
