Interesting stuff for sure. Monday I'll get a few more pics. On another note, I just picked up this months MotorTrend mag and bammo on the cover is the 2006 Shelby GT 500. Looks nice...very nice.

I mentioned the dicrepency about the location of assembly and he still feels that the car was assembled in Metuchen, New Jersey. He told me that the "T" after the 8 in the vin represents this assembly plant according to paper work that he recieved with the car (which could very well be incorrect. Looks like a copy). I mentioned the little detail about the sticker on the air intake. He wasn't sure about that, but did mention he spoke with the origanal owner of the vehicle whom stated that everything was origanal on the car as purchased....except the emblem on the dash. All very small details, but still very interesting nonetheless. Did you here about production numbers on the 06"? I read in MotorTrend that the price range should be around the 45'ish mark. Not bad for 450h.p. Maybe I'll park one in my garage. :rolleyes: |

I'm in no way a Ford expert, but here's my $0.02.
I have seen a few KRs in the $35k- 5oK range in the past few years. Verts go in the $50K-$80k range and Verts w AC w stick go w concours restos go for $100K+\ All the same, they are Way cool The GT350s still kill it at the track |

The big difference between the 428 found in the GT500 and the 428 CJ in the GT500KR was the 428 CJ had the 427 low riser cylinder heads/intake manifold (there were other minor differences, too). As for those 'Le Mans' rocker covers...you see them on the 428's in the GT500 all the time (the GT500 was not ram air so it got the Cobra open element air cleaner along with them). They were also an over the counter parts option for dress up. They do not mean the engine is some special 450 HP Le Mans racing engine. Cool car!!...especially since there were only around 1,000 (give or take) hard tops built that year :) I've been an avid Ford FREAK since I was 13. Had a chance to buy a 66 Hertz in 1985 for $6600 and passed. Duh! Someone please post the VIN as I cannot see the pics. Love to research this in the Shelby Registry. |

1968 Vin breakdown is as follows: 1st digit - (8) year of production 2nd - (T) Ford assembly plant ... all 1968 Shelby's were built in Metuchen NJ 3rd - (02) body style ... this would be a 03 if convert 4th - Engine code ... J-302, S-428, R-428CJ 5th - Consecutive production number FYI only 318 KR convert's in 68 |
