you might be OK with a 4x2 as long as you dont go to unfamiliar places.......went to one ramp where a buddy said i could get in "no problem"......there was a problem
.......I coulnt turn around!!......ended up having to back the boat up a steep hill in the dirt from a dead stop........2wd.......dug two holes 6" deep in one second flat......trailer never even moved!!!......dropped it into low range four wheel........didnt turn a tire.......4x4s for me!!! .......doug

Is it possible to get a 2WD truck that has a low gearing like the 4x4s?
Never had to use 4WD at a ramp before, but HAVE to have the low to back the boat up the driveway. Reg. reverse is pedel to the floor and still no go.

Wardy is very right...
Low range not only gives you more power to pull, but it also increases traction, as it gets rid of peaky power...like on a turbo diesel.......
I tried very hard to bring myself to buy a 2 wheeler..to save some money, but I couldnt... My 4x4 D max is great! I haven't had it in low range yet...
This is my work truck. The load here is 10,000lb. The truck has a 5.4 gas (POS)... It will NOT pull the boat up a steep ramp without Low Range... It rarely spins the tires, even in 2wd, but the motor just doesn't have the azz.....
Given that your boat isn't real heavy, You could go with a 2wd as long as you order a posi or locker... You also have to keep your head screwed on straight and just don't spin the tires.....
Going diesel???
