Upgrading the hitch on my F-250
#1
I'd like to upgrade to a true Class 5 hitch on my F-250, something that will do 10K+, weight carrying. One caveat - I already have a 2 in x 2 in, 12K solid steel shank with a 10K ball. I'd much prefer to be able to continue to use this item, as it cost me a pretty penny and I've only used it twice. As I understand it, the Reese Titan is a 2.5 inch receiver, so my shank would not work with it, correct? Or is there an insert or sleeve that could do the job?
Thanks!
Thanks!

You can obtain an insert for the Titan.
Another solution:

(looks like their Ford page is down, might have to call them)

If you have the lame class 3 reciever (like my F250), can't you use a "Weight Distributing" hitch with it to get to 10K?
That's what I was thinking of doing since the WD hitch cost about the same as a new reciever.
Thoughts any one.
Uncle Ernie.

I went to a WD hitch first on my factory (GM) Class-III hitch. Pages 1 & 2 of this post have a lot of information:

Its NOT a lot of work to adapt to your trailer, and WELL worth it.
I have now upgraded to a Putnam XDR Class-V hitch. (Engineer by trade, decided to overkill it.) It bolted on in a few minutes. I still use my WD hitch setup at almost all times. I was only moving the boat 8 miles yesterday, and did not hook up the WD bars. I will next time for an 8 mile trip. Its worth it. The whole setup tows much better. (12K lbs.)
