Re: F250 Factory V-5 Hitch
Mine is a Curt as well, has the ratings and looks better as well. I know that I have contributed to that pile of Ford hitches.....BZ

Re: F250 Factory V-5 Hitch
Same here, with the famous V5 hitch...it's garbage.
I'm dumbfounded as to why a truck with a tow rating of 12,000# has a 5000# hitch on it. |

Sorry VB, but you CAN DO Weight Distributing hitches with Surge Brakes. You just have to have it set up correctly. You CANNOT DO Anit-Sway Bars with Surge Brakes. Check this thread for all the good stuff. My suggestion would be a simple and quick swap to a Putnam XDR Class-V Hitch for a couple hundred dollars. Lots of info and links here on page 1 and 2: http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/s...vy+hitch+balls |
Re: F250 Factory V-5 Hitch
Oh yea, on the curt hitch, you still have a 2"x2" opening where you can use your other couplers. Some of them are 2.5"x2.5"

Re: F250 Factory V-5 Hitch
solved the problem. picked up a Putnam XDR 15000# weight carrying hitch out the door for $170 and mounted last night.

Re: F250 Factory V-5 Hitch
How much is involved with mounting the hitch? I found a Putnam XDR local for $136.00; I can save a $100 if I install it myself, just want to see how difficult it is, especially the wiring. Does it just bolt on?
|
Re: F250 Factory V-5 Hitch
Putnam should bolt on to factory drilled holes with no new drilling. DR, what truck do you have? Existing wiring should already exist to at least the bumper, and even Wal-Mart sells splice kits to add the trailer lights wiring. A brake controller is a little more advanced, but not hard to do.

Re: F250 Factory V-5 Hitch
I've got a 2005 F-250 Crew Cab. Has the factory trailer package, including both 7 pin and 4 pin wiring, the dinky 5K lbs hitch, and the integrated brake controller that Ford introduced this year. As long as it's just nuts and bolts, I'm cool. I just dont' want to F things up and have to pay someone to fix them.
Then again, $100 bucks is a $100 bucks.... |
