F250 Factory V-5 Hitch
I have a 2002 F250 crew cab 4x4 PS. The hitch on it is a Ford V-5 hitch. The specs on the hitch says 12,500lbs gross trailer weight, weight distrubiting. 5000lbs gross trailer weight, weight carrying.
I may need to tow a buddies 42' Tiger about 60 miles one time. Weighing in about 12,000lbs with trailer. My concern is the factory hitch. Thanks, Cris |
Re: F250 Factory V-5 Hitch
Well your way over because you cannot do distributing with surge brakes so you're at more than twice the rated limit.

Re: F250 Factory V-5 Hitch
You will need to buy a new hitch, trust me I just went thru the same thing witha F-350.....BZ

Re: F250 Factory V-5 Hitch
The factory hitch is a POS.
Get a Reese or Putnam. Wannabe |
Re: F250 Factory V-5 Hitch
thanks for all the input. I thought I was going to have to upgrade it. I found a Putnam XDR locally, 15000lb weight carrying hitch for $160.

Re: F250 Factory V-5 Hitch
Sad isn't it.
Ford should be ashamed of it's self for putting those Class 3 POS's on Super Duties......mine has to be changed too.... . Will pay more attention next time. |
Re: F250 Factory V-5 Hitch
i swapped mine out the day after i got it.... somewhere there is a huge pile of ford hitches....

Re: F250 Factory V-5 Hitch
My ford deal agreed to swap it before I took delivery.

Re: F250 Factory V-5 Hitch
I just had one put on 2 weeks ago. its 12k regular 14k weight distributing. Its a Curt, $230 installed.
Remember, you also need a new ball and hitch thing the ball goes in. those are 5 or 6k too. The balls they had were either 10k or 30k, so i got the 30k. |
