The F-650 is a much better option than one of the max-duty pickups but if you're getting into the world of mediums, you should be comparing apples to apples. A 650 is competitive with a Freightliner FL60 or an International 4600. In this class, 80% of what you see on the road is International and then the Freightliner. Pete and KW are the high end but pricey. What I don't care for in the 650 and the GMC as well is the short cab height. These things bounce a bit more than a pickup. I'm 6'1" and with 3 bad discs in my neck, the last thing I need is to have the top of my head jammed into the roof of the truck on a larger bump.

In mediums the big issue is motor selection. The Cat is a good motor but their parts are very expensive and its the loudest motor of the bunch. Most powerful out of the box with the broadest power options available. I have mixed feelings on the Cummins. The small motors have a durability issue. The International 466 is the quietest but I don't believe it's available over 210 hp. When you're comparing motors, keep in mind that torque moves trucks. My 250 horse Cat has 800 lb torque. My 6.0 Excursion has 100 Hp more but couldn't pull 1/3rd the load of the cat. I've had the Apache on the Ex and it's like the truck is chained to a large building. I don't even feel it with the FL70

One of the biggest reasons to own a "real" truck is 24 hour service from dealers and Cat, if your truck is so equipped. Also, the emergency road service guys carry parts for them. The Ford or GMC might mean waiting until the following Monday and/or a long-distance tow to a big city with a meduim dealer

Check with Gary Yoeman Ford in Daytona, the one they had on display was yellow and was new and the sale price was 82 and change during biketoberfest.
Hope this helps, Nick
