Like what you like but all automotive companies have problems and recalls, GM just has a lot of vehicles out there so they stand out more when a problem exists.

The salt they use to melt the snow on the roads in the northern states takes a toll on vehicles up here. Road grime can wedge its way into a plastic piece that covers the ABS sensor near the wheel hub, resulting in salt corrosion.

Things are getting bad for the North American auto industry and it is going to cause a lot of hardships for workers directly and also indirectly. When no money is being made by the auto worker they are not spreading the money around and it will sink a lot of other businesses and jobs along the way.

Not really a funny thing.

I'm glad this clears my truck.

Know what you mean about winter corrosion. I worked as an auto tech in Iowa for years and I love the difference I see in the vehicles here in the south. They last so long and so clean. Makes them much easier to work on too.

Re: GM recall

This is a low speed condition when braking. It causes the ABS to engage and lengthens low speed stops. It is actually scary because you are jammin on the brakes and the ABS is chattering and you should simply stop- but you keep rollin until the abs stops. At high speed it does not affect stopping.

I am a little suprised at stecz post, maybe he likes rice. I believe in supporting American companies, I don't see any offshore boats with Toyota V8's. My Yukon XL is a great vehicle and really this ABS issue is the only complaint I have. I get 18 mpg on the highway at 80 mph, haul 5 people and gear, and it pulls a trailer very well when I need it to.

Re: GM recall

While "american quality" hasn't been brought up yet thought I would throw this out anyway. This whole import/export imbalance is a bad thing for our economy. We keep pumping more $ into foreign owned companies and the $ go right back over to their country. Then they come back and buy our real estate, companies and even our new products which they are so accomplished at reverse engineering and bringing to market as an american 'wanaabe". While the small thinker will think we are really showing the american auto what we think when we invest in the foreign product. The big picture is we are slowly screwing ourselves. When these funds are sent out of our economy they cease to generate more $. Anyone who has to deal directly with the executive staffs at major foreign owned co's canprobably give you a better idea as to the "love" they show to americans :D

Yes it would include the Suburbans.

One thing that I do not understand is they are only recalling vehicles in the 14 Northern States.

The recall involves less than 20 percent of the vehicles built during the four model years. The states include: Connecticut, Illinois, Indiana, Massachusetts, Maine, Michigan, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont and West Virginia.

Yes I can understand this part but I think they should check them all if there is a problem.

The reason why I say that is a vehicle could have originally been in one of the "salt" states and then sold to someone in another area where they are not going to check for the corrosion.
