Is hitch strong enough???/
Purchased a new Dodge 1500 w/ Hemi. It came with a factory hitch. The truck has a towing capacity of 9250 lbs., is the factory hitch strong enough to carry that kind of load? The dealership said since the factoory installed it, it would be sufficient for the rated capacity. Don't know if I can trust them? Any thoughts out there?????????????????
Thanks,
Dail

Looked it all over and no stamping of sticker that would indicate the capacity. Had a friend that is in the trailer business look and he was unable to find anything.

I had a Yukon XL with a factory installed hitch, It started twisting, removed it and put a Draw Tite on. The replacement was alot heavier and bolted to the frame in more places. I'd look at an after market and compare with whats on the truck, then decide.

I bought mine new in 97 and have the rating sticker on the hitch. Call dealer with vin# and see if they can cross reference or look at your window sticker.

www.putnamhitch.com states their only hitch for that truck is rated for 5K lbs Weight Carrying, and 10K lbs Weight Distributing. (There is a BIG difference in hitch setup.) I'd be willing to bet to get the full 9250 lbs that they speak of, you have to have a full WD trunnion bar setup. Its a pretty common game with all of the Big-3.
