I plan to buy one as soon as the incentives our good. I just found out that GM is supposed to do another round of employee pricing starting in January. Hope it's true.

Dan watch the numbers...GM plays the numbers game. Right now they have the Red Tag sale which claims to be not as good as the Employee pricing HOWEVER they have bigger rebates on some of the rigs that actually make the buy price less than the employee price.

I also plan to buy one early 2006 :)

GREAT engine thus far. I have about 7500 HEAVY TOWING miles on the truck now.

It has the wimpy small tires... But at 75 mph the tach is only at 2,000... 6 speed man...
Tows great as is, but I think there would be a real issue with 6th gear if you want to run a bigger tire... 245s would be fine, but those silly semi looking wheels/tires would be bad news...

A Lot!
Virtually new engine and 6 speed Allison Auto.

You'll know what motor is in a truck as soon as you start it up. The LBZ is a whole lot quieter than the LLY (I have both).
The LBZ seems to use the lower RPM range more than the LLY did.

Given the 6 6peed, I wish GM put a 4.10 axle in it. All you can get is 3.73s...

FYI, the back end of this truck rides like poop. Ford has a much better ride...

What exactly was the employee pricing they had. For example I am looking at one that has a sticker of $48, what would the red light price be?

Although it's a totally different truck I saw an 05' 2500 Suburban with the red tag two weeks ago. Sticker was $48K, Red Tag was $36K!

A truck with a 49,455.00 sticker comes down to 43,918.78. There is a rebate on the LBZ of an additional 1,000.00. If you go with an LLY there is an additional $2,500.00. The deal that was run over the summer was better than the current deal. The same truck would have been 39,800.00 over the summer.

There has been a big thread on www.dieselplace.com re difference between 06 LLY and 06 LBZ. According to the GM techs there, all LLY's built from june 05 on and the "new LBZ" are the exact same motor down to the last bolt and chip. 06 LLY's and LBZ's got the 6 speed Allison, otherwise the only difference between the 06 LLY and LBZ in a 2500 or 3500 pickup is programming!

Now I just need to find a GM tech that can re-program my 06 LLY :D

Make sure you get the LBZ...
We have an '06 dually with the 'tweener engine. It's an LLY, but with some LBZ parts.
The engine is substantially quieter than my 04.5 LLY.
However.... I think the 04.5 runs better.
The LBZ is said to be a very different engine. beefier and more HP/TQ of course.
The 6 speed Allison is great. Much better than the '06 F350 that we have as well.

The truck pulls great. 18k is no problem for it.

I use a Predator programmer and AFE intake on the '04. The '06 is stock.

ok, maybe some clarification needed. the "new motor" is only due to some programming from the factory? or what motor produces 360hp?

From what I read, the "new" motor started production June of 05, at the 310hp output still with the LLY name whilst they continued durability testing on the 360hp version in conjunction with the 6 speed allison, this is the LBZ.

The LBZ version is 360hp, the 06 LLY is available in 3 different outputs depending on what it is installed in.

Most of the upgrades were mechanical, however they all have the new turbo and 100% Bosch fuel injection and controller starting June 05.

LBZ's were released starting at the end of September build date.

They now refer to all duramax motors built after 06/05 as 3rd generation Duramax.

Seems like they made it very confusing for nothing

I got my 06 LBZ today, power is sweeet, feels like my o4 in stg 2 w/hypertech stock! DIC shows 17.5 mpg even with our winter fuel and a little start and stop driving,I have heard they are getting bad mileage but it sure doesn't seem like it! Same color as 04,victory red w/black body moldings but this one is a lt-3 w/leather,old one was ls with cloth. Pulling her in the shop tonight to scotchgurad the carpeting and put mud flaps on it and check every thing over (fluids etc). Last 2 duramaxes were 1 1/2 qts low on gear oil in rear end when new. Mirrors are a little big and are going to take some getting used to. I skipped the onstar,xm radio, sunroof and spare tire lock,it has every other option,Smitty

I have had my 06 crew cab dually for about 2 weeks now. I only have 700 miles on it so far but I absolutely love it. I know I will love the 4wd at the boat ramp. Indicated mileage so far is 16.5. 50/50 split town and highway. Just got my new Putman 15K receiver, draw bar, and ball. Put a Fold a Cover bed cover and Mag Hytec extra capacity trans pan and rear end cover. Also had new brake box installed. The real test will come in Feb when I tow the boat to the shop for upgrades/maintenance. Joe Murray

Re: 2006 LBZ duramax

OSO just purchased a new 06 2500 HD with the LBZ. I notice many differences. First the redline on the tach is around 5k and the new motor has a high idle feature which is nice for extreme cold and warm climates.

It has great power and is night and day from the previous motor.

Good news is that GM just dropped the sticker price by $1500.

I bought ours from OSO member Greg Dunn at Dunn Chevrolet in Ohio. Great buying experience. I would definitely call him, he got me the exact truck I wanted down to the last couple $35-$50 options.

There's a feature on the Drive Information Center which lets you activate it with the push of the button on the steering wheel. My 05' LLY has the same thing. Ken.

Congratulations on the new truck. Check out this link on the Redline of the LBZ. It is not 5,000. http://dieselplace.com/forum/showthr...hlight=redline

"the 2006's have the same tach scale (max 5000 rpm), but the redline was "increased". I put that in quoats because it wasnt really increased (well it was by like 200 rpm on the LBZ's), they just took off the dashed red line because people were freaking out when the engine would go into the dashed red when using grade braking. Its OK to go in the dashed redline when grade braking; the engine wont be fueling up there anyways. What you dont want to do is go in the SOLID redline, which starts at the same place on the 2006's as it did on all the other trucks. BUT it'd be almost impossible to get it to go up to the solid redline. The TCM and ECM would not allow it."

started with the 04.5 LLY like mine. The auto high idle will only come up at ambients less than 32* and coolant temps less than 165*...combined. Turn the feature on/off in the DIC

manual high idle is easy to add...see dieselplace.com

I picked up my new truck yesterday, A black extended cab short bed chevy with the LBZ/ Allison. I have to learn how to drive all over again with all that low end tq.
I am thinking of replacing the tires with some that are slightly larger, so if anyone needs the take-off's I will give you a good deal.
