Re: Gmc 2500 Diesel ?? Or Ford

I Have Had 3 Duramax's And 1 Dodge Cummins. The Gmc's Tow (my Boat And Trailer At About 14k Lbs) Better And More Comfortable Than The Dodge, But The Dodge Got Much Better Fuel Economy And Seemed To Have More Pulling Ability. In General, If You Travel A Long Distance For Towing As I Do (sometimes 7-8 Hours Towing The Boat One Way) The Gm Product Is A Much More Comfortable Vehicle With Many Fellow Travellers To Vouch For This. Not To Mention, There Is More Room In The Gm.

I have what I belive is a good question, is the size of the tires stock or the gearing of the transmission on the Ford what allows it to run 4.10 gears or something else? The GM only comes with 3.73, what's the difference? I run about 2500rpm with the stock 245's on my DMax at 75MpH, is this about the same with bigger tires? How about the Ford, what kind of RPM do you see at 75mPH? Ken.

My F250 (7.3 PSD) (3.73's) with slightly bigger tires than OEM (285's) runs 75 at about 2050 rpm.

oK, then having the torsion bars raised and putting on 285's would probably drop that rpm. Thanks.

Frog,
I did the t bars and 285s on my '04.5 2500HD.
RPMs dropped on the highway, but I could feel the difference in accelleration.
Doing it again, I think I would put 265s on.
My truck is the 5 speed, not 6 speed.

I know that that's still lower than my 5 speed ally with 285s.

We have a dually with the 6 speed. 80 at 2k sounds about right.

Just pulled 21,000+lb with it today! No problem. Bone stock everything.

But, with that in mind, I would not hesitate to by the GM Duramax.

I even like the Dodge Cummins, but I still think their crew cab is a joke.

Duramax is ~smooth & quiet~ with a little background whistle... :D

Cummins is obnoxious sounding...
