2005 GMC Duramax upgrades
#1
I have a 2005 GMC Duramax/Allison combo with the LLY motor. I'm wondering what to do for upgrades. The truck came from the dealer with the Hypertech programmer. It's okay, but I hear the Edge is better. I was really considering the Banks system (without the radiator). From what I have been reading, the banks has more power, (is more expensive) but better for the life of your truck.
I think the Banks system does it right, exhaust, power, monitoring the EGT's, etc....I want more, reliable power and don't mind spending a little more money for the better system.
Please give me some opinons here. Please--guys that sell these products give me a true point of view, not a sales $$ point of view.
Thanks!!

I have read about people not being happy with the banks products for the duramax but I think they were talking about the "six gun" thats out for it. Here is a good place to find more info than I could ever type,Smitty

do a transmission, anything over 100rear wheel hp and the trans will start to slip away(know from experience) even though some programmers say they prevent it. I now run a quadzilla 215 tune has 10 settings stage 5 suncoast tranny after the factory one went nope to the extra power, mac air intake kit but you can run an afe and I have a 5" exhaust, 4" usually does good for you as well gets the egts down. I am also running dual lift pumps a small squeeze of nitrous(250) 2stage set up, and have clicked in the very low 12's in a quarter mile and can still average 20mpgs on the highyway and tow whatever i need. The only good thing about the edge is that they have the boost and pyro in the monitor, banks for the money is under powered, the quad has been pretty friendly and loads like the hypertech. some other choises are pacific performance, quadzilla, tts, westers tune, efi live if computer savey(make your own tunes), hypertech, bullydog(not liked very well by a few dmax owners), edge, and banks. for exhaust is a summit racing 4", jegs has one, mbrp exhaust(very nice piece), magnaflow, and then the local muffler shops can get a 4" or 5" set up and run a seperate muffler like an aeroturbine or such. You will defenately wake the truck up and let her eat.

If you go with different size tires, check to see if programmer will correct the speedo reading or just show correct reading on programmer. I think edge does not, Bullydog does etc.

The Hypertech does account for tire size and its accurate within 1 mph. (I have a gps unit in my truck) You can "stack" this system with another system if you want to.
