how steep is the ramp? :p we were able to pull a triple bbc 42ft cig with a chevy 150 bumper hitch in a striaght line easy....but that doesnt mean we could tow it

Re: can a Jeep pull a 10 meter fountain

The insurance company does not care how close or far away your ramp is.

If you get in an accident, and it's over your vehicles capacity, you own it. And all the damage that went with the accident is coming out of your pocket too.

I think your boat alone is over 7,600 LBS, add in the trailer and you should have a pretty good idea just how far over you are. Your call at the end of the day.

should have enough power to pull it.....stoping it may be a different story

just tell him the deal.....No....but if you get one of those weight distribution hitches....it might help keep you from sagging as much....when your not sagging as much it gives you a feeling of stability which in turn lets you drive faster....also it lets you relax more to you can consentrate on the hole your going to need while attempting to avoid other drivers such as yourself :D

Are you talking around the parking lot or on the street??? You could launch in 4 low and it could do it, but there is NFW I would try and drive on the road with that set up. How you doin buddy? How is Jen doing? Hope all is well, see ya soon.

BTW-which 10 meter are you looking at? Rhode Rage?
We can always hook you up with a truck to pull that thing if you need to go somewhere.

We pulled ours a few blocks to the ramp with a Expedition but it was very iffy.

The problem won't be towing it will be launching. The jeep won't be able to stop the boat and trailer going into the water.

After installing that super hitch....he will still be ok at the ramp...he can install a electronic break controller ....and hold the manual lever on ...on the way down the ramp....thus insuring the trailer breaks do there end of the job :evilb: ....yup..

I am so fuc&ing tired of this nonsense being posted here over and over again. You know goddamn well that a Jeep can't pull a Fountain. The one that kills me is the "not far/take it easy" bull$hit.

Buy a truck, rent a dock or move down to a boat you can afford to pull without jeopardizing the lives of innocent people.

Pull it-Yes
Stop it-No
Insured- Heck NO

A side question might be "Can a Jeep Roof withstand the weight of a Fountain 10 meter? "

It is not worth the risk. Sometimes things happen that are not even your fault, but you don't want to be in that situation.

WTF? Some folks who go the extra 'mile' to have a proper setup deserved to be railed? I don't get your logic.

I'd tend to agree. Do it right, or stay home.
(BTW, using a correct rated WD hitch and proper setup is doing it right.)

If you're going to tow that big ass boat with a Jeep, make sure you let me know when and where as I'll bring the camera. Wouldn't want to miss something like that!!! :evilb: :D

If it's a 4x4 it will handle the job with no problem. Obviously that combination is not road legal.

I launch my neighbours 33 Larson with my 4x4 2500hd Duramax. Now thats a handfull. 11'6" beam and about 12K pounds including trailer.

Hey... is this adapted from the "don't buy a junk lift and then stand under it" speech? :D

Just kidding Chris. His point is well taken.

I rent a dock. :D

I'm a bit more subtle but the lessons are the same.

This sub-forum needs a sticky that says that:
"NO, it is NOT OKAY to do something that is unsafe, illegal and possibly fatal to yourself, your passengers or others around you."

It astonishes me that someone would even have to ask the question- and that it's at least a once-a-month event here.

even if you get it all rigged up and it trailers fine, you will be a lil startled when you try to pull it outta the water at a steep ramp, or when ur beak takes te jeep back in with it :D we use a grand cherokee v8 for towing....my 18ft checkmate :p

I agree. I've asked this question many times myself on this board.
Only, I've asked it in the appropriate forum and wording (in this case it would have been "What's the weight on a 10-meter, posted in the Fountain forum). I can do my own math from there.
100% agree on the "ramp is close/just watch it/ be careful - you'll be fine, BS!!!
Right now, the thing that is keeping me out of the boat(s) I'm interested in all require a larger Tow vehicle than I have, to TOW LEGALLY and SAFELY.

your options in this case are:
Borrow buddies truck to get boat to marina.
- opt. 1. get a dock, keep boat in water.
if opt. 1 is not acceptable,
- opt. 2. Rack store.
- opt. 3. store boat on trailer at marina and use Jeep only to launch - IF said Jeep is capable of launching and retrieving.

Good luck - I like the old executioners.
I'm still just not a "beaker" and I'm still shopping for something (it should be a bigger truck, but that's not as much fun...)

:D

No offense....but if you have the proper tow vehicle....you will need none of these extra helpers.....you will need nothing extra.....hense my post of giving you the extra feel of security....while your looking for a hole ....I am shopping for another rig right now.......mabey i should buy a dually for the 46....just cause i need one and do not want to spend the money for a big truck  :D....pure logic

Different folks have different opinons of need.

I have an F-350 PSD Dually and will still be using my WD setup to tow my 12K lbs. boat/trailer. I set it up originally to tow properly and legally with my 2500 Avalanche, rated to 12K lbs., which in my configuration, did not require a WD setup. The difference in handling while towing is quite noticeable.

Re: can a Jeep pull a 10 meter fountain

I tow my 30'er with a diesel Excursion and I'm terrified of loosing a tire or towing any farther than LHC (200 plus miles). I've been contemplating getting a dually for about a year now. No way would I tow anything heavier with my truck even though I know it's capable of it. The safety of my family comes first. Dual wheels, low center of gravity, properly inflated tires, working trailer brakes, that's what you need for a twin engine 35'er IMO.

Do you really expect someone to come on here and say it would be ok to tow that boat with a little half ton Jeep?

Just off the top of my head, but a 10 meter Fountain is just shy of 33' although, by the time you figure in the beak and integrated swim step you are much closer to the 25' mark, but I still wouldn't do anything but drive down to a wet slip in a Jeep if that boat was invloved. :D :D :D

Duallys are ok....as i have stated for months.....it is the peeps that use this stuff on single wheel vehicles that are really over the limits....I do not care what all the idiot manufactures are saying.....it is what goes happens on the street that counts...that avalanche is a turd for towing....which is why you have a dually....at least you made the move..

Re: can a Jeep pull a 10 meter fountain

I bought a dually because I really wanted a black dually.
I love my dually so far, and just went to the truck-goody place today, but I miss my Avalanche already.

Most class lll and lV hitches are only rated for 6-10 k weight carrying. If you step up to a class V you might see 12k wc. Most balls and ball mounts ar only rated for 10k. So with that under you hat now, Brian is one of the few that IS doing it right with the wd system. Now, taken into count there is a very large safety margin on stuff like that you can get away with some crazy tows. No the Jeep is pass it's ratings but it will work at the ramp. On the road I would think real hard about it.

I launched a 402 Formula with a F150 for most of the summer. It was not an easy job but it worked. Now I have a little larger truck to move it around. And feel real safe. But here again the draw bar and ball are only rated for 10-12k. I have almost 1800lbs of tounge weight. Is it safe? Am I comfortable with?
