Help. 06 lbz duramax or 6.0 ford?
 

have always had fords and lov e the truck, worried about the 6.0, starting to act up, the new duramax seems very nice, better tranny and motor, ford has such a stupid low price on a new 06 with the owner loyalty, can get an equally equipped 1 ton dually from ford for 5k less, which one do I go with, haul up to 24k pounds, thanks wiggler

i hear ya...i've always had fords also...i just bought a new'06 duramax dually...at first i thought i made a huge mistake(owned it less than 24 hours & trans. stuck in 2nd gear,it was just a plug not connected all the way),i've had no problems since & love the truck... it's more quiet than the other diesels & has a lot more power...as far as the chassis i think the ford is built more like a truck...the chev. just seems lighter...not a bad thing,a better ride,depends how u work it... towing won't matter,all the brands are about the same tow rating...i just bought the power pup downloader & i highly recommend it...all this justs my 2 cents. :drink:

I've had two 6.0 fords, and have a friend with Duramax and they both seem to be good truck, I like the ford personally, but they both seem to be good choices.

I certainly don't want to upset other guys by making them think I am insulting their trucks....
But... we have both '06 gmc and ford.
The gmc has the 310hp LLY, not the HO lbz.
I could not believe the difference between the ford and GMC.
The GMC gets 2 mpgs better fuel econ while pulling 14k. the GMC also has a cruise of 10 mph faster. It flattens hills, while the ford runs over its tongue....

Me, I'd pay up to 10k more for a GM truck than the ford.

But, if you want to buy a Ford.... I'm certainly willing to sell you this one we have..... :eek:

Not that the Ford is BAD, it's just that the GM is MUCH better.

Remember, I form my opinion after having both trucks, both.

I think this is the last year for the ford 6.0 so that's a consideration and probably why Ford is discounting them.

I have 14k miles on my 06 Duramax and couldn't be happier with it. No issues whatsoever.

Ford has a new motor in the works. The 6.0 is pretty much old tech and is noisy compared to the new GM and Dodge offerings.

30k on a 2005 GM since last April with a couple trips pulling the rig to Florida, never a problem.

I've had a few Fords and a few GMC's. I have a 2005 GMC with the Duramax and I LOVE it :D

The Ford's are nice trucks, but the new LBZ is one baaaad mother...... Go with GM. I love my LLY Duramax, and it pulls (and smokes) like a freight train.!

my '06 LLY smokes as well under full throttle, in fact it'll lay out a strong haze.... has the dealer told you why? mine runs pretty damn good though, gotta luv that 6 speed Ally... I could do without the creaking, squeaking and wobbly leather drivers seat though, it's REALLY annoying me... anybody with LLY's have that wierd intermittent engine tick at idle, that GM says in a new TSB, is NOW normal noise??

harper look at the msrp and take a 12-15% off that price is what are letting them go for. If not the find another dealer. the rebates from chevy gmc suck right now for them.

I have an 02 that had the tick for about 5k and has since gone away. It sometimes reappears after oil changes, but goes away after a few hundred miles. I love the truck and highly recommend a duramax.

All the late 05's and 06's make that noise, oil is squirted on the underside of the pistons when oil pressure is above 30psi or so. The ticking noise is the occasional air bubble making it's way through the system. This noise is most noticeable by the left front wheel.

It is not a problem.

my 04.5 LLY ticked also. It was most noticible for the first 5-7K miles.

Got an LBZ bayed in Mich. waiting for a ride east!

The GM (LBZ) is a japaneze engine made by Isuzu and is brand new this year. The 6.0 had problems when it fisrt came out now everything is ironed out. I have a hard time believing you get mileage with the GM too. there aren't any upgrades yet but the power pup for the GM. Get the ford put exhaust and an intake and a custom programmer in it. I get 20 mpg in town and 24-27 on the hwy depending how heavy my foot is. Oh yeah I blow enough smoke to make rice rockets stop and swerve when they are next or behind me.

First of all, the DMax is a GM product joint venture designed with Isuzu input (sounds like you've heard of Isuzu...you know, the ones that've been building diesels for 80 years), and built from the foundry up in Illinois (you know...USA).

Second, as far as "everything's ironed out now" :rolleyes: Right...that's why the 6.0 Navistar PowerJoke is being discontinued in the near future? Navistar/Ford is going to start all over again and enlist 10's of thousands of dissatisfied owners of problem laden trucks as beta-testers again.

FMC better get there buy-back checkbooks warmed up...again. :evilb:

Third of all, the most proven, and powerful diesel performance products are developed out for the LB7 DMax (01-04.5) and the LLY (04.5-06). The LBZ is mechanically the same as the 06 LLY (serious mech buildup)...but with more powerful and proprietary programming that the aftermarket hasn't cracked yet. They are working on it and the Edge products for the LBZ should be available in June.
Problem is that the undeniably most reliable trans in this segment (read Allison 1000) is maxed at about 650 lbs. Transmissions are the limiting factor in the diesel power wars. Getting a trans phsically beefy enough in parts size to handle the kind of power these things are capable of making, into this segment of trucks, is going to leave us with Corvette size footwells. The DMax design is overbuilt (especially after the afformentioned latest mechanical beef) and most prepared to make BIG power with mods

Fourth, as far as your reported mileage...

you're blowing smoke alright...and I bet it smells like weed. :p

man those wil;l look nice i went the cheep way i put H2 hummer 17's on min with 285 70 17 bfg's i did not have to do anything to the susp. other then trim some in the front

the Hummer thing works well though and looks "truck". Goes especially well on the white IMHO.
I'm went pimpin' this time, so chrome was the only chioce in a "street" looking wheel design...

18x8.5 Panther Juice 8. 3400# load rating. Lifetime structural and 3 years chrome warranty.

Yokohama Geolandar G-52 "street truck" tire. 285/60-18. 3086# @ 50 psi. Relatively new...getting rave reviews.

Pardon me I didn't realize I was in for gang rape. I will admitt the mileage was before i had the tires and wheels but it is true. This is at 55mph with 373 gears. plus exhaust and an intake and a tuner. factory I got the same as everyone else abround 15 mpg in town and 19 on the highway. I am glad you cleared up the Isuzu thing for me its still a Japanese company no matter where the colaboration took place. Thats like saying because toyotas are assembled in the US they are a US car. Navistar is Internantional who has buliding diesels for just as long. I guess I do have a miracle truck cuz the numbers didn't lie.

I'm going with the LBZ, 3600cat blew my doors off in his new dually and I was in my all chipped out, turbo back exhaust6.0 ford, he is all stock, It was embarrassing. thanks for your alls comments, the chevy is just a better package. after riding in both

Buy the DURAMAX, I have 50,000 on my 2004 GMC 4x4 crew cab dually. It is an awsome tow truck, just went from michigan to ohio and to miami and back to mich., I love my duramax. I am on my second GMC with a duramax and allison it's a great combo.

I guess i don't know enough about global economy. if the blocks are cast in the US you can call em american. Just curious though where is the rest of it made? thats only a question don't get your panties in a bunch.

The new GM's do haul ass I am just a die hard Ford guy, givin my .02 I am appearantly the only Ford guy in these forums. LOL I did think I would have more support givin the poll that said Ford were the best tow rig in this very forum.
