Re: 2007 Denali XL
I think that the Denalli will be a little light in the power and the braking areas. I think a 2500 or 3500 with diesel and braking transmission would be a much better choice. I have been towing a 36' Sonic with twin 525's for about a year and a half with no problems. I pull it with a 2500 HD GMC 4 x 4 with a Duramax Diesel and an Allison 5 speed in tow mode. I also installed a 12,000 pound rated hitch on the truck as the factory OEM hitch was only rated 7,500 pounds while the truck is rated 12,000 pounds with a weight carrying hitch. I installed higher load rated larger width 17 x 285 tires with wheels that also had a higher load rating. The trailer also has stainless ventilated disc brakes with a surge unit that works properly. Stopping is normally the worst problem but with the use of the tow mode of the truck transmission with its engine braking and good disc brakes on the trailer the rig stops really well. Trailer sway has also not been a problem and I have pulled down interstates at 85 MPH. I like the 2500 because it is so much easier to manuver around town and other trips.

Re: 2007 Denali XL
The Denali XL will tow 7k with ease, also the 6.2 2007 models will get way better mileage than the 8.1 motor due to the cylinder deactivation mode. That wont kick in when towing, however the rest of the time you will be getting better mileage than any of the diesels.

If you don't get a dually get a 2500 HD D-Max. I know Byrd doesn't like that idea, but at least you can use the truck for something other than towing when you aren't boating. I pull the Gun with one and it's alot heavier than the Activator. Plenty of room for passengers, TV's and chit. :drink:
