Default New one on me, 01 F250

Went to change the oil today and the oil change place wouldn't do it because the oil pan was rusted. They said it's the 4th one they've seen lately. I took it to Ford for a quote.............................$1700.00 to replace the oil pan. After looking, it looks like it is a pain in the azz to do. Somehow I'd think an oil pan should last a tad bit longer than 5 years

just venting..

I think it has to do with where you live and what they do to the roads. My Ford F-350 is a 2000 with not a spec of rust on it, and it came from Connecticut. I think they use a lot more salt in the Midwest than they do out East, as they use more sand other treatments.

How bad is your pan? Is it rusted to the point of losing its integrity? Can you sand it down and paint and undercoat it; perhaps beef any areas up with JBWeld? I would not have Ford do the change anyhow. Find a good shop with plenty of great references and have it done there.

I have heard that some roads are being treated with a spray on de-icer that is incredible corrosive. (corrodes things much faster than salt would). It is mainly used on bridges overpasses. That sucks about a needing a new pan. I would spray the pan down with some penetrating oil and try a different shop. Did you ask FORD to change the oil?

Suck the oil out with a marine pump up thru the oil dipstick and trade in at a Ford Dealer. Be glad its not a gasser, my 03 F250 5.4 w/50K exhaust manifold bolts are already rusting thru. I had one stud rot off and replaced the entire starboard side. Ford oil pans, spark plug and exhaust manifolds have been rusting to chit for almost 10 years - you'd think they'd do something about it?

Well, after my conversation with them and asking why I should continue to buy Ford trucks from them (currently have 4) I got this email from the Ford dealer;

"I spoke to our service manager, xxxx xxxxxxxx, about your oil pan problem. He said "if the vehicle is 5 years old or less, then Ford would pick up all of the repair cost. It would also need to have less than 100 K miles." In your situation, all he could do is offer a discount on the repair."

Better than nothing I suppose..
