Anyone have a Dodge Ram 1500?
#1
I'm looking for a new truck for work. Mostly to do sales calls but I usually pick up/drop off when I see my customers, which is why I need a truck. Looking at Ram 1500 SLT. Just wanted to see if there was anyone here that has one. How do you like it? How is it on gas? I'm interested in 2002-2004 models.

The transmissions usually look like this in a short time.My 99 quad cab drove better and got better mileage (if you can call it that) with 4.11 gears than the 3.55s it came with. The 3.55 geared ones seem to tear the lockup clutch out of the tq convertor more than the 3.92/4.11 trucks too,Smitty

I had a 96, it came with the 318 (get the 360) and 3.55, gas mileage was 12. I changed gears to 4.56 and tires to 36. mileage stayed the same. I put over 90,000 miles on the motor and tranny with no problem (though i know others had issues but don't all makes), sold motor and tranny when i turned it into a mudder with a 440, and last i heard motor and tranny were still going strong.
My girl got a 2001 with 318 and 3.55, again mileage was around 13 (to me the 3.55 undergear that motor, with the 360 it would be fine)....it was stock with the exception of a cat back exhaust. Since sold the truck but she is ready for a new one...When she gets it, it will have the diesel.....though we aren't sure if it will be brand new or used....she just likes the styling of the dodges, she likes the older model better but doesn't mind the newer ones.. my advise get a diesel or at very least the bigger v8

The old man has a 2004 QC with the Hemi. He's got a K&N drop in filter, gets about 13mpg. Also has the 20" wheels. It's fairly nice truck, but he needs something heavier duty.

Man 13 MPG
I was hoping for better than that. My F-350 Dually with a V-10 isn't far from that. I guess I need something with a little better gas mileage. Maybe I have to go diesel.

diesel are better..mine with 4.30 gears gets 16.7 in the city and 19 on the highway, if i can cruise at 60-65(to slow for interstate) it get 20, so with the 3.73 or 4.10 gears it would be better.... but the gassers love the gas...didn't seem like anything i did to the dodge it stayed right at 12 even on the highway....

Had A 2001 And 2003 Creb Cab Dodge With Gas Motor And Got Around 12mpg, Had A 2005 Quad Cab Cummins And Got 18+ But A Lot More Money. It Was Great But Did Not Like The Shifting Of Trans In Any Of Them. Went To Gm Products And Like The Allison Much Better And Can Get 2001-2003 Crew Cabs For In The 20's Or Less Now. Hammer
